Today we’re excited to be connecting with Kaushlesh “garry” Purohit again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Kaushlesh “garry”, always such a pleasure connecting with you and thank you for sharing your stories, insights and inspiring messages with our community. We’re looking forward to getting the download and what you have been up to since our last interview, but first can you briefly introduce yourself to folks who might have missed the prior conversation.
Hello, I am Kaushlesh Purohit. My friends and family call me Garry, and you can too. I am a music producer and an audio engineer. I record, produce, mix, and master music records.
I grew up in Jodhpur City, which is in India, and now I live in Los Angeles.
I started my career working at Shangri-La Studio and now work independently.
I have been fortunate enough to work with artists like Kendrick Lamar, Coldplay, Harry Styles, Shawn Mendes, Run The Jewels, and boygenius.
In 2024, I won a Grammy Award as an engineer for Best Alternative Music Album—The Record by boygenius.
Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
The biggest update to share is that I became a Grammy Award winner in 2024, along with the incredibly talented team who made boygenius’s debut album The Record. The majority of the album was recorded at the world-famous Shangri-La Studio over a period of one month. The making of this album was an incredibly fun and educational experience—one that I will cherish forever.
Another update is that I’ve been busy making music. When I started my career, my initial goal was to be an audio engineer, but as luck would have it, a good opportunity presented itself, and now I can call myself a music producer as well. I recently had the honor of working with Ali Sethi, a world-renowned singer from Pakistan. We’ve released two songs, “Tera Sitam” and “Maya.” I recorded, produced, and mixed these songs, and I am very proud of them. Another song I made is called “Poison,” written by my dear friend and rapper Xenai, and produced by yours truly. I am excitedly looking forward to making more awesome music. There are a couple more songs scheduled to release soon, so please keep an ear out.
I have also had the opportunity to make sample packs with Splice. I produced one called Desi Percussion, which features one-shots and loops of Indian percussion instruments and grooves, presented with a unique twist and vintage analog goodness. Another pack is called Bazzar, which features one-shots and loops made from audio recordings of busy marketplaces in Old Delhi. I’d love for you to check them out. Please let me know what you think.
We also want to give folks a chance to get to know you a bit better so we’ve prepared a fun lightning round of questions. Ready?

Life is often about tough choices – can you talk to us about your thought process, strategy or philosophy when it comes to making difficult choices or tradeoffs.
I like reading manuals. They provide information about what the product was designed to do and how it does it. Life doesn’t come with a manual. So, what we can do in this case is gain knowledge—gain as much knowledge as possible about the subject matter at hand. It helps in making decisions.
Your luck turns into opportunity if and when you are prepared for it. Think of luck as a river flowing through the ether, frequently small streams of it branch out and flow toward you. If you prepare for it by making a reservoir, it will turn into an opportunity and stay with you. The quality of the reservoir (how well you prepared) and the size of the reservoir (how much you prepared) define what kind of opportunity you get.
You turn your luck into opportunity.
But this is mostly related to work and career. Life is much more complex. One must be present to get through it. Be present and enjoy: the good, the bad, the sad, the happy, the difficult, the easy, the ugly, and the beautiful. Enjoy all of it.
I love this quote; I don’t know who said it: “All my life, I kept on wiping the mirror. Turns out the blemish was on my face.”
