Daily Inspiration: Meet Dana Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Parker.

Hi Dana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a singer-songwriter piano player from South Dakota. In 1995, at the age of 17, I moved to Hollywood to study music and music production.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Coming from the Midwest, Hollywood was a big change. Also, being 17 years old, the smallest of details needed to be learned and not always with instruction!
Because I was on my own, I had to make it work somehow.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer songwriter and my main instrument is the piano. For many years, I toured as a folk rock/blues artist Dana Parker 327. I have been able to work with some of the biggest name in the business, for example, Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys, Berry Gordy founder of Motown, The Adicts, Emblem 3 and RY X.
I am also very lucky to work as a television and film composer/music producer at DL Music on shows such as Millionaire Matchmaker, The Making of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, Black Ink Crew and The Real Housewives etc.

Also, since 2010, I have worked as a Commercial Music Professor at Fullerton College, Cypress College, Media Tech Institute and Mt. San Antonio College.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see a big shift in our field with A. I. entering the generative music artform. In my opinion, I can image musicians and music lovers wanting to know the true basics of how the music production was created. Studio pics, short videos of overdubs, real pianos/instruments and analog processing may be vital for many of our future promotions. Showing how the music or art was created organically could actually make the art become more valuable in the future as well. I could image many people seeing the A. I. badge and not wanting to buy or commercially use the production or music, or at least, pay less for the A.I. mix.
