Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Dance.
Hi Brian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story started when I was going through social media in May of 2019 and while I was going through influencers pages. I asked myself, why do so many influencers mainly influence people to buy products or advertise products. I personally want to see influencers try to influence people’s lives in a positive way. Then it finally clicked in my head, why not try to influence people to focus on their mental health! Why not make a YouTube that teaches people how to improve their mental health, so everyone can feel their personal best! I encourage everyone to follow on YouTube MIND Your Health by Brian Dance.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has been a smooth road? Yes and no. Yes, that I was fortunate to still remember how to video edit from my high school graphic arts academy. It really helped paved the way for me, so I did not have to pay a person to do my editing for me. I am also super thankful for my parents to buy me a new laptop with a fast processing system. My parents are way too awesome for supporting my career. But the struggle has been gaining the attraction and the following for my YouTube. I am not upset about my current following because I just started two years ago. I know it will gain attraction because I believe in my work and my creativity.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I currently work for two amazing non-profits. I work as behaviorist for multiple schools, which means I work with kids as young as four and as old as 17 with their behaviors (impulsivity, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, aggression, etc.). I also work at Five Acres, which is a foster youth facility that houses kids from 5–15 to help rehabilitate them back into society. I am most proud to work with foster youth because they were my biggest motivation to create a mental health YouTube. I wanted the foster kids to have another option on what they watch because most of stuff they watch is twerking and provocative. What sets me apart from others is my creativity. The way I think is so complex and I have a great way to put my visualization into existence.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to anyone starting a YouTube career, especially if you are young. Take as many art classes as you can from middle/high school because they are free to you. They will teach you the basics and teach you how to be creative. I also encourage people to reach out to YouTubers on their social media because you be surprised that a lot of people will respond to share their journey and the worst response from a YouTuber is “no” or no reply.
