Daily Inspiration: Meet Brennan Wedl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brennan Wedl.

Hi Brennan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am from Minnesota and began playing music around the age of ten. First violin, then guitar, then singing and guitar combined. Writing songs was always something I’d do. From little tunes about frogs and the dog behind plays and dances. Creativity was encouraged and nurtured. I went to catholic high school and went on to study songwriting at Berklee College of Music. Many people and places have shaped my musical style and it’s always growing and bending in new ways.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve struggled with intense depression and hypochondria. This combo was not pleasant deep into quarantine. The winter gnawed at my heart. After being involuntarily admitted to a psych hospital, many songs came and I accepted that I needed to dig deeply within myself to find peace. I am such a happier person these days. The trick is to ask for help if you need it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I play guitar that sounds like a story. This combined with words looping and threading through a voice like soft blue nights. My songs are my heart. One time I got to play at the Minnesota State Fair grandstand. I think Carrie Underwood played there once. Yeehaw!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family unit has shown me undying support for my music since day one. Following a music path was always encouraged. Pat Pattison, my professor at Berklee, truly sharpened my brain like a pencil. I am ready to write. My heroes Gillian Welch, Adrianne Lenker and Steven Tyler have always smiled from behind framed glass on my walls. They encourage me. My friends are my guardian angels lifting me up as we grow together in this crazy whimsical way.
