Conversations with Santi Vazquez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Santi Vazquez.

Hi Santi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started simply doing hair for dance competitions when faced with a dance injury. I fell in love with the creativity, and enrolled in beauty school shortly after. I immersed myself in the industry, taking every class possible, shadowing and working for some of the top salons in West LA until I eventually decided to go independent. The love of the industry is indescribable and will be a huge part of my story.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle was always finding a salon home where I could shine. As a lived in color artist, I had to really think outside of the box to reach my clients. I believe people see my heart, and compassion for human kind and animals that really resonated with people. Clients want to know who you are, sometimes the skill is just a plus, but do you truly care about every single person that sits in your chair? It’s an easy yes for me as it brings me so much joy to not only bring their hair dreams to life, but also bring happiness knowing their stories are heard!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in lived in color, Victoria Secret inspired layered cuts, and bombshell blowouts! I would say I’m most known for my lived in brunettes and blondes with effortless beach ready waves. I’m most proud of staying true to myself and never giving up. My first job as an assistant, the owner told me I would never make it in this industry because I care too much about the people on my chair on a personal level. I believe that’s exactly why people keep coming back, I truly love my people!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a kid, I was extremely shy, but in the most painful way. It wasn’t until I became a dancer in high school where my personality really started to shine. I’ve always been creative in some sort of fashion, and it was in those moments is where I truly shine, and started to come out of my shell.
