Conversations with Meghan Wiesman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Wiesman.

Hi Meghan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into photography started much like it does for so many moms, with a desire to take better photos of my first daughter. I invested in the good stuff, picked up my camera, and started shooting… and shooting… until I finally figured out how to create the look I loved. Before long, friends started noticing and asking me to take photos for them, and what began as a hobby slowly blossomed into something much bigger. Within three years, I made the leap and left my full-time job to pursue photography as a career. 16 years later even after some life changes, I’m still doing what I love. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have the support of amazing friends and family, along with dedicated clients who believed in my work, trusted me with their memories, and continued to grow alongside me. What started with simply wanting better photos of my daughter turned into a 16 year journey that I’m incredibly grateful to call my career.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With any business after 16 years, there are always bound be some challenges. There have been seasons of incredible growth and excitement, also seasons where I’ve questioned whether I could keep going. Burnout has been a very real part of my journey, especially after giving so much of myself to my business for so many years. Then came COVID, which brought an entirely different kind of uncertainty and forced me to rethink what photography and my business looked like. I’ve also navigated major changes in my personal life that completely shifted my priorities and perspective. Those challenges have taught me that success isn’t always about constantly pushing forward, sometimes it’s about slowing down, adapting, starting over, and remembering why you picked up the camera in the first place.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in Weddings and family portrait work. I’m known for chasing light especially that golden glow, which I chase like a middle schooler chases an ice cream truck. There’s something about that warm, dreamy light that makes me want to stop everything and capture it. My style is a mix of natural, authentic moments and beautiful moments in a timeless fashion. I think what really sets me apart is me. I’m fun, outgoing, quirky, and probably a little ridiculous at times. I also bring that energy into every session. I want my clients to feel comfortable enough to laugh, be themselves, and forget they’re even being photographed. I’m also not afraid to keep it real. I’m proud that I’ve built a photography business that feels authentically mine, and that my clients know they’re getting more than just pretty pictures when they step in front of my camera.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality that has been most important to my success is authenticity. I’ve never wanted to be the photographer who simply creates what is trendy or tries to fit into a certain mold. I’ve always wanted my work to feel timeless. Nothing they will regret in 10 years like I regret all those shoulder pads and crimped hair from the 90s.
