Conversations with Darlene Darling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darlene Darling.

Darlene, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started singing and songwriting as a kid, spending hours in my bedroom daydreaming and building a little world of my own. I would perform and sing my songs for friends and family, and it was something I loved so much. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a performer.
I released my first single about 3 years ago, and it’s been such an amazing ride ever since. I’ve put out a lot of music and I’ve built a community of people who really connect with it, and that is such an amazing feeling.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely hasn’t always been smooth. Being an independent artist is both freeing and challenging because you have to wear so many hats. I handle a lot of things when it comes to my artistry, and I’m involved in every aspect of it, from writing, production, mixing, engineering, creative directing visuals and so much more. But with all that said, that process is also very fulfilling and I’m proud that I can say everything I put out is truly my own vision I’ve created.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a singer and songwriter. My music is heavily influenced by jazz, indie, and soul, and I am very inspired by the 50’s and 60’s era of music and Old Hollywood and that time period, and you can definitely see that in my art. I’m an old soul. Haha! I would say I’m mostly proud of all the work I’ve put out and the fact that I’m involved in every aspect of it. My sound is very unique to me and the world I enjoy creating, and that brings me so much joy.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I would say true artistry is birthed in the discovery of self. So I would encourage you to find out who you truly are. Get off your phone and go live in the world! Find out what means the most to you, what your desires are, what You like and not what society likes or wants you to be. You are the person who defines who you are. And only you need to believe in yourself, even if the people around you don’t. Because your own self belief can take you to beautiful heights.
