Conversations with Brandy Timmons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Timmons.

Hi Brandy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hand made Con Amor started simply from my love of creating, but it grew from something much deeper. As a mom, and especially being an autism mom, I wanted to create something that allowed me the flexibility to be there for my children while also creating an income and building something that could one day be carried down to them.

I started creating custom pieces from home, learning as I went and slowly investing in more equipment, supplies, and most importantly, myself. Little by little, I expanded into custom apparel, DTF transfers, sublimation, personalized items, and eventually my interactive T-shirt bar, where customers can choose their shirt, pick their design, and watch me press it right there on the spot.

Building a business while being a mom hasn’t always been easy. I’ve had to build my dream around my children, responsibilities, setbacks, and real life. But those challenges are also a big part of what keeps me going. I want my children to see that you can start with what you have, keep learning, keep showing up, and create something of your own.

Today, Hand made Con Amor continues to grow through custom orders, vendor events, car shows, concerts, parties, shipping, and new opportunities I never imagined when I first started. My goal isn’t only to build a successful business—it’s to build something with a name, a story, and a foundation that my children can carry on if they choose.

I’m proud of how far it has come, but I truly feel like I’m just getting started.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’m about five years into building Hand Made Con Amor, and I’m honestly just now starting to see a real profit from it. For years, so much of what I made went right back into the business—equipment, supplies, inventory, events, and simply learning through trial and error.

I’ve also been building this business as a single mom and an autism mom. My children have always come first, so I’ve had to grow my business around their needs and responsibilities while also trying to create a better future for us. There were times when money was tight, times when I questioned whether everything I was putting into the business would ever pay off, and plenty of moments when giving up would have been easier.

But I kept going. I kept learning, investing, creating, and showing up. Now, about five years later, I’m finally starting to see the business become profitable and see the results of all those years of work.

This journey has taught me that success doesn’t always happen overnight. Sometimes you spend years building the foundation before anyone—including you—can really see what it’s becoming. And I’m proud that I didn’t give up.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Hand Made Con Amor is a custom creative business specializing in apparel, personalized items, DTF transfers, sublimation, and custom designs. But what I’m probably most known for is my interactive T-shirt bar at vendor events. Customers get to choose their shirt, choose from a variety of designs, and then watch me press and create their shirt right there on the spot. It turns buying a T-shirt into an experience.

I also love that my business isn’t limited to one style or one type of customer. I create for car shows, concerts, special events, birthdays, memorials, businesses, families, and people who simply have an idea they want brought to life. A lot of what I do starts with someone saying, “Can you make this?” and I love figuring out how to make it happen.

What I’m most proud of is how much Hand Made Con Amor has grown from me simply creating at home into something people recognize and come looking for at events. I’ve taught myself so much along the way and continue learning and adding new things.

What sets me apart is the personal experience behind what I create. I’m not interested in just selling someone a shirt. I want them to leave with something they chose, watched being made, and are excited to wear. That’s really what “Con Amor” means to me—whatever I create, I put a little love into it.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I would say perseverance. I’ve learned that success doesn’t always come quickly, and there have been many times when it would have been easier to give up. Being a single mom, an autism mom, and building a business at the same time has taught me how to keep going even when things don’t go as planned.

I’m always willing to learn, try something new, and figure things out as I go. If something doesn’t work, I don’t see it as failure—I see it as something I can learn from and do differently next time.
