Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Sohn
Hi Sarah , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started off as a client first, interested in getting lash extensions for my birthday. It was barely starting to become a trend at the time and not many people in my area were getting them done or servicing them so I saw a gap in the market and brought them to my area. Over the next 10 years I’ve kept up with the trends and any service I wanted on myself or thought would be beneficial, I would add on to my service menu. I now provide lash lifts, brow laminations, microblading, ombre brows, and recently trained in Seoul, South Korea for their natural version of lip blush, which is lip line and lip tint permanent makeup.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Although my journey was not always an easy one, everything I had went through made me more resilient. I was working two jobs before funding my business with no outside investments, I did not have a day off for 6 months straight, trying to pay my way through beauty school. As soon as I would come back after an hour commute, I would work on clients. After getting my license I moved locations about 3 times, each city being bigger than the next with more service providers doing the same services but I was able to set myself apart and was lucky enough to have a steady flow of clients. I had just moved to Sherman Oaks and we got shut down 3 months later during covid and remained closed for most of the year but because of everything I went through I knew I had to keep going and was grateful to still be in business.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been in my location in Sherman Oaks for about 5 years, since then I have had a few employees, rented out rooms and stations to other beauty providers, trained girls and released an ebook with more to follow. This will mark my 10th year of being in the beauty industry and since the beginning, I have always wanted to be known for being a knowledgeable provider who specializes in natural beauty. I cover everything lips, lashes and brows. Specifically I provide water and oil proof eyelash extensions in a wispy style and do it in a way to prevent any lash damage. I also provide lash lifts and tints, brow laminations, realistic microblading, ombre brows, and Korean style lip tint and lip line. All the services I provide help women save time getting ready along with achieving effortless beauty.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
What has helped me the most is talking to my other friends in the beauty industry because I feel like there are certain situations that only other beauty providers would understand. We can vent to each other, bounce ideas back and forth. and support one another. I have found these gems of people along my journey when I took an in-person course, beauty school, inside my studio or they were my service provider at one point.
