Community Highlights: Meet Marcelo of Mission Jiu Jitsu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcelo.

Hi Marcelo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started Jiu Jitsu in 1993 in Rio de janeiro, Brazil at the Barra Gracie academy.

In 2000 I received my black belt from Carlos Gracie Jr who was my Professor from withe to black belt.

During this period I participated in numerous tournaments being Rio de Janeiro State champion, Brazilian champion, Pan American champion and 3 times World Champion bronze medalist.

I was member of the a Brazilian national team that came to Irvine for the 1st international Jiu Jitsu tournament: Pan American in 1995.

Today i am teaching in Mission Viejo for 8 years in a row building a strong community and making champions in life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Balancing the Jiu Jitsu training and competition focused on high performance was not an easy task doing at the same time College, studying and part time working.

Despite all this adversities it made me stronger and better prepared to face difficulties.

Also it helped me to have more skills in different areas.
