Community Highlights: Meet Joel Huff of Frontside Cafe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Huff.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Chef with over 30 years of experience in the culinary industry. Born and raised in California, Joel has traveled the world working in luxury hotels and culinary programs before deciding to return to his hometown of Ventura, where he and his wife opened a casual breakfast and lunch café.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to where we are today has definitely had its share of bumps along the way. My wife and I opened the café in 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, after we were both furloughed from our hospitality industry jobs. For years, our dream had been to open our own business in my hometown of Ventura, so we decided to take the leap.

Opening a restaurant during COVID came with plenty of challenges, but it also gave us an unexpected opportunity to grow slowly and work through the kinks before becoming too busy. During that time, we were able to fine-tune our menu, develop our service model, and really establish the foundation for what Frontside Cafe is today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Frontside Cafe ?
We are a family-run business inspired by the café culture of Australia. My wife, Charne, is originally from Australia, and every time we visit her family, we love experiencing the incredible food and coffee culture there. We always felt that the relaxed, welcoming Australian café experience would be a perfect fit for a small California beach town like Ventura, and we wanted to bring a little piece of that culture back home. We’re passionate about serving a delicious Australian-inspired breakfast using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and the highest-quality products available

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
