Community Highlights: Meet Jeremiah San Nicolas of Kansept Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremiah San Nicolas.

Hi Jeremiah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey began at a pivotal crossroads in my life. After nine years of service in the Coast Guard, I faced a decision that would define my trajectory for the next decade: re-enlist to secure a twenty-year pension or choose a different path. While I am incredibly grateful for the skills, perspective, and opportunities the military provided, I realized that staying in would leave me feeling unfulfilled. I couldn’t bear the thought of choosing security over purpose, so I decided to take a leap of faith into entrepreneurship.

In May 2022, I officially registered my business, Kansept Academy LLC. By that September, I had cleared out my living room, replaced my couch with mats, and began teaching a handful of students. It was an essential phase that allowed me to refine my coaching style, learn the fundamentals of business management, and start generating revenue. Through persistence and hard work, I eventually outgrew that space and relocated to a larger facility, which allowed me to expand my student base significantly.

We have now been open for three years, and I’ve reached this point by relentlessly focusing on self-improvement, building essential business skills, and maintaining a growth-oriented mindset. Above all, I’ve learned to trust in myself. I must also credit my incredible support system—my family, friends, students, and coaches—whose encouragement made this transition possible. Making the jump from military service to building Kansept Academy has been the most rewarding challenge of my life, proving that when you align your career with your passion, the growth that follows is truly limitless.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has been far from smooth, but I believe that if the road were easy, there would be no room for growth. My greatest challenges were internal: battling constant comparison, communication barriers, a tendency to take things personally, and an underlying fear of failure. Overcoming these obstacles required a deliberate shift in perspective. I learned to focus on my own path and the tasks directly in front of me, taking consistent action while actively building my skill set and mindset. Most importantly, I learned to trust in my own resilience, knowing that I could navigate any hurdle because I am fully committed to the work I have chosen to do.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Leaving the military was the most significant risk I have ever taken, and I am incredibly glad I did. I believe that growth always lies on the other side of a risk. Regardless of the outcome, you gain valuable experience and data that allow you to make more calculated decisions in the future. The more action you take, the better you become at mitigating risk and positioning yourself for the next challenge.

Sometimes, you have to believe in your direction so strongly that you are willing to take risks that seem far-fetched or daunting. My advice is to fully understand your motivations, determine what you are willing to lose, leverage your support system, and maintain unwavering self-trust that you can navigate whatever reality throws your way. Once you have that foundation, take the leap.
