Community Highlights: Meet Jennifer Coll of AVERY ROSE LINGERIE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Coll.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
At the ripe old age of 18, I gave modeling a shot and wound up living and working in the fashion capitals of the world. Paris, Milan, London and New York were my home bases and I was fortunate to travel the world for what I thought would be a year or two at most. I developed a deep understanding of fashion and design. Those years living and traveling alone, in foreign countries, made me fiercely independent, resilient and confident. Later, as a single mom of three, I relied on those attributes as well over twenty years of experience in the fashion industry and founded Avery Rose. Avery Rose is a luxury lingerie company I’m proud to say is made in America. Now, ten years after founding Avery Rose, my entrepreneurial journey has taken me in a very different direction with my latest endeavor, Lookxsee. Lookxsee is a technology company I founded to help people have greater clarity and peace of mind in their relationships.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I tell myself that for every obstacle and for every challenge, it is happening for me, not to me. That is the mindset I’ve hardwired in my brain. Sometimes that’s a hard pill to swallow. For example, I unknowingly spent nearly 5 years in a relationship with a married man. Aside from my world being turned upside down, it was difficult to see how this happened for me. I could have chosen to do many things in response to this situation, but I came up with a solution which at the very least, thwarts this from happening to other people. I really wanted to provide a way to help not only myself, but others from being deceived. Hence the creation of Lookxsee. For Avery Rose, the problems are more tangible and even foreseeable, like production delays, distribution challenges, and trademark infringements.

Every day is different and the obstacles and challenges are too many to count, both personally and professionally. You just have to mitigate them and work through them. Fortunately, I have learned to see these as opportunities to learn, grow, pivot, and improve upon what is blocking the path or not working as expected.

Starting Avery Rose taught me all about creating a brand and a business from scratch, but also coming from a place of deep knowledge. The difference with Lookxsee is that I knew next to nothing about technology and certainly less about how to create an app, but I wanted a solution to a problem that I couldn’t find.

I didn’t originally set out to create companies, but rather, I tried to find solutions. The need for solutions created the companies. I figure somebody has to do it, might as well be me 🙂

We’ve been impressed with AVERY ROSE LINGERIE, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Avery Rose is known for luxury silk lounge pieces and hand made lingerie using the highest quality sourced materials such as Italian and French laces, and Swarovski crystals. Everything is designed and made in New York and Los Angeles. I am proud to be a solo female founder and known as one of the only American made lingerie brands that exists supporting the American workers and fashion industry in the United States.

How do you think about happiness?
Happiness is different now at 60. I cherish the life I’ve created. I like to say that I find joy in appreciating all things great and small; A rose blooming in my garden, a design I created, my daughter’s ice skating performance, a night out with friends. The most important thing to remember is to appreciate what you have and be grateful.
