Community Highlights: Meet Health Clinic Salud And Familia of Health Clinic Salud And Familia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Health Clinic Salud And Familia.

Health Clinic, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Our Story: Health Clinic Salud & Familia has been part of the Pomona community since 2001, beginning with a simple but important goal: to provide compassionate, accessible healthcare for individuals and families. What started as a small medical practice has grown into a family-focused healthcare clinic serving generations of patients in Pomona and the surrounding communities.

The clinic was founded by Sonia Tovar, a Nurse Practitioner whose own journey as an immigrant and healthcare professional deeply shaped her vision for the practice. After coming to the United States from Peru as a teenager, Sonia pursued her education in nursing and advanced practice, eventually specializing in women’s health and family healthcare. Her experiences showed her the importance of not only treating illness, but also educating patients, preventing disease, and caring for the whole person.

Over the years, Health Clinic Salud & Familia has continued to grow while keeping that same personal approach at the heart of the practice. The clinic provides care for women, men, children, and families, with services ranging from primary and preventive care to women’s health, diagnostic testing, wellness, IV therapy, vitamin injections, men’s health, joint treatments, and medical aesthetics.

What makes our story especially meaningful is the relationship we have built with the community. For more than two decades, we have had the opportunity to care for families through different stages of life, often seeing multiple generations within the same family. We believe healthcare should feel personal, welcoming, and respectful—not simply like another doctor’s visit.

Today, Health Clinic Salud & Familia is entering a new chapter while staying true to the values that started it all: compassionate care, prevention, education, wellness, and community. We are proud to continue serving Pomona and look forward to building even stronger relationships with local families, organizations, businesses, schools, and community partners.

Our journey has always been about more than growing a medical practice. **It has been about building a place where people feel cared for, heard, and welcomed—one patient and one family at a time.**

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. Building and maintaining a healthcare practice for more than two decades has come with many challenges, from navigating changes in the healthcare industry and rising operating costs to adapting to new technology, changing patient needs, and the many responsibilities that come with running a medical practice.

One of the biggest challenges has been continuing to provide personalized, compassionate care while growing the clinic. We never wanted growth to come at the expense of the personal relationships we have with our patients. Our goal has always been to make people feel heard, respected, and cared for.

Over the years, we have also had to continually adapt and evolve. Healthcare is constantly changing, and we have expanded our services and embraced new approaches to meet the needs of our community while staying true to our roots. Today, we provide a broader range of primary care, women’s and men’s health, preventive care, diagnostic services, wellness, and other specialized services.

Another major challenge has simply been perseverance. There are difficult seasons in every business, and healthcare comes with its own unique pressures. What kept us moving forward was our patients, our team, and the belief that what we were building mattered to the community.

In 2026, we are entering another exciting chapter with our new location. Moving forward after more than 25 years of serving Pomona is both challenging and rewarding, but it also reminds us how far we have come.

Looking back, the obstacles have actually become an important part of our story. They taught us to be adaptable, resilient, and willing to keep learning. Most importantly, they reinforced why we started in the first place: **to serve our community and provide healthcare that feels personal, compassionate, and accessible.**

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Health Clinic Salud & Familia is a family-focused Holistic care medical clinic proudly serving the Pomona community since 2001. For more than 25 years, our mission has been simple: to provide compassionate, personalized healthcare where patients and families feel welcomed, respected, and truly cared for.

We provide a wide range of healthcare services for women, men, children, and families, including primary care, preventive care, women’s health, men’s health, diagnostic and laboratory testing, ultrasound services, joint treatments, wellness services, IV therapy, vitamin injections, medical aesthetics, and weight-management services. Our goal is to make healthcare more convenient by bringing many services together in one welcoming environment.

What really sets Salud & Familia apart is our personal approach to healthcare. We believe patients should be treated as whole people—not simply as a diagnosis or a number. We take time to listen, educate, understand each patient’s individual needs, and create care plans that support their overall health and well-being. Our approach combines evidence-based medicine with a focus on prevention, wellness, and patient education.

We are also proud to be a multilingual and culturally welcoming clinic, with care available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. We believe language and culture should never be barriers to receiving quality healthcare.

Another part of our identity is that we believe healthcare extends beyond the walls of our clinic. We want to be an active part of Pomona—not just a place people visit when they are sick. We are building relationships with local nonprofits, schools, businesses, community organizations, and families and looking for meaningful ways to provide health education, participate in community events, support local initiatives, and give back.

One of the things we are most proud of is the relationship and trust we have built with the Pomona community over the years. Our clinic has grown and evolved, but our core values have remained the same: compassion, accessibility, education, prevention, and treating every patient with dignity.

Today, we are entering an exciting new chapter while carrying more than two decades of history with us. Our brand, Salud & Familia, represents exactly what we stand for: health, family, community, and caring for the whole person.

We want people to know that when they come to Health Clinic Salud & Familia, they are not just coming to a medical office. They are becoming part of a healthcare family that genuinely cares about their health, their goals, and their future.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Growing up, I always felt a strong desire to help people when they were sick or struggling. I saw how much families relied on caring, trusted people during difficult moments, and that stayed with me.

That childhood desire to care for others eventually led me into healthcare and inspired me to build Health Clinic Salud & Familia—a place where families could receive quality care while feeling heard, respected, and supported.
