Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Coulter
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was fired from my job in 2021. Two days later, I was on a plane to Maui, trying to process what happened and my next professional move. My initial thought was, “What did I do wrong.” I had to quickly shift my mindset from what I did wrong to reminding myself of what I could do great. Let me be honest: I took the time to determine what I did great and am thankful I did. This time of self-introspection was vital for me to elevate to where I am now. If I did not take the necessary time to confirm what I did, I would not have my current successes.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Self-introspection is never smooth. Honestly, it comes with joy and pain because you have to address the aspects of yourself that you do not like and reduce your risk of elevation. When you self-introsect, you should make adjustments. Sometimes, those adjustments increase who you are and reduce your friend group.
The thought is that others will share in your excitement as you elevate, shift, and grow. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. We never thought people supposed to care about our well-being would get uncomfortable watching us elevate, shift, and grow. Unfortunately, they do.
I would lie if I said this was not emotionally draining; it was. Although these challenges were complex then, I am thankful for my time with them and equally grateful that they are no longer in my life.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Alicia Nicole™?
Alicia Nicole™ is the lifestyle brand I developed to provide Safe Spaces for Black Women™ a little over a year after being fired. My experience in corporate America fueled me to build my lifestyle brand and the events that provide Safe Spaces for Black Women™.
Safe Spaces for Black Women™ is A MOVEMENT to provide Black women with a toolkit to navigate their professional spaces. Alicia developed this toolkit after she successfully survived workplace trauma and abuse. Her experience with validation, encouragement, and elevation (VEE) gave her the tools to elevate professionally. She found her safe space and realized other Black women needed access to the toolkit. The toolkit includes a bestselling book (Barnes and Noble), a blog, a podcast, and luxury events.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to confidently niché down to provide spaces only to Black women. This is also something I am most proud of. After being fired, you usually lose your confidence. Quite the contrary, being fired propelled me to a space that provided spaces for women like me—women who have been hurt and harmed within the workplace.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Of course, my husband and three daughters have been my loudest cheerleaders. When I shared the vision of my brand, they were all in and ready to support me. Next, my Brand Manager, Brittney Murray of Mogul Behaviour, has provided me with unwavering support. When I feel like I do not know which direction I need to go, she redirects my path.
Lastly, the ladies who attend my safe spaces are my why. They are why Alicia Nicole™ can create Safe Spaces for Black Women™.
