Check Out Zhamak Fullad’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zhamak Fullad.

Hi Zhamak, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started from shooting over the weekends at clubs and different events in Vancouver, BC. Then from there I moved to Toronto to follow working with agencies and directly with some of my favourite musicians. Eventually I got to move to LA and do what I do full time with my friends and artists I’ve always loved.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing is EVER smooth in my opinion; even breathing is a pretty complex process but we just do it off instinct.
There’s a big old list of challenges in what I do! What I really want to focus on would be the lack there of women, especially women of colour, in spaces where an aspiring girl/woman wants to be in and cannot see themselves in those positions. Thankfully I saw my mom be an artist so the doubt in myself was a bit less prominent, but it’s difficult not having too many role models in this world. Shoutout to the very handful of the ones that do exist and I have DEARLY held onto!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a photographer and director based in LA; and New York at times. I’m from Tehran, Iran, and I went to high school in Vancouver, BC.
I’m known for my intimate style of photography and my music videos for everyone’s favourite musicians.

I think my personality and the way I can connect with my subject to show a certain type of chemistry is what sets me aside from everyone else.
