Today we’d like to introduce you to Vijay Arikarevula
Hi Vijay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
GVJA : ORCHESTRATING VERSATILITY, CRAFTING HITS – WHERE GENRES COLLIDE AND MUSIC UNITES
Introducing GVJA: a.k.a Vijay Bharadwaj, is a Musical Alchemist Blending Cultures and Genres
GVJA, pronounced as Ga-Ja, a prolific multi-genre artist, emerges from the culturally rich landscapes of India, with previously a B-Tech Engineering and B.A Music background, where he cultivated a diverse musical background. His journey is a testament to the fusion of traditional roots and contemporary innovation that defines his unique sound.
GVJA’s early exposure to the rich tapestry of Indian music became the bedrock of his artistic journey. His innate flair for songwriting was complemented by a thirst for knowledge, leading him to the prestigious ICON Collective school in the USA. Under the guidance of master mentors, GVJA immersed himself in the world of production, enriching his skills and expanding his sonic palette.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course there were many obstacles and still are but that’s the journey of life for you, life would be too boring without obstacles that make you grow. Let’s see for one I was always a versatile musician and I work in multiple genres which makes it confusing from a listener point of view as to what my sound really is. I am in the process of figuring that out, I still work in multiple genres but I’m figuring out a path to streamline my knowledge into one unique direction and sound palette like never heard before.
Connects: Music Industry is a game of connects, even if your music is good, if you don’t have the right connects you can’t market it well but social media has brought big ups for that which brings me to my next point
Social Media: Never been a very active social media person so figuring out a strategy and making videos is a challenge now but I’m slowly getting better. As they say, the way to get good at something starts with taking the first step!
Money: I don’t come from a poor family but my family is not very well off either to be able to fund multiple songs and music videos on a larger scale, which made me get creative in figuring out my music style in a way that it’s also cost efficient.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What my project GVJA apart is the ability to seamlessly integrate orchestration techniques derived from my deep connection with Indian music into my productions. This fusion of Eastern and Western elements results in a captivating and dynamic musical experience, establishing project GVJA as a true innovation in the industry.
Beyond the prowess in production, GVJA brings a distinct edge as a vocalist. My background in hip-hop and vocal music production adds an authentic layer to my overall musical identity, providing a unique perspective and enhancing my skills as a versatile artist.
What’s next?
Right now I’m interning at a Record Label called Dim Mak as an A&R intern. Through this I am able to listen to a lot of new and trending music that’s going out into the market even before it goes out, which helped me to figure out my direction and sound palette. It also gave me a lot of inside information on the internal workings of a major label which is a big plus as one of my major goals is to have success with my artist project GVJA, possibly also on the secondary artist project that I’m creating and my Indian artist project and with that success establish a Record Label of my own that helps and supports new/upcoming independent artists grow and mature into full fledged successful musicians. Towards this I also want to become an artist A&R, meaning I have my own artist project but I’m an A&R as well. Hopefully once my schooling at Icon ends I will be able to do that!
