Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Giek.
Hi Mimi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Sure! Hi, my name is Mimi, but I go by Ee. I have always had a love for clothes and shoes for as long as I can remember, but my parents did most of the choosing until I got to middle school to high school. By the time I reached college, I finally had full freedom to express my self through my own style. Expressing my true self through my wardrobe built up my confidence and drew in opportunities that aligned with what I truly loved since a child, fashion. I connected with a couple college friends of mine who at the time were interested in photography. We would get together and randomly do photoshoots around campus and I would model and style myself. I continued to work on my modeling portfolio and consistently posting on my socials, from then on more opportunities to work with other photographers presented themselves. I was able to collaborate with photographers from Los Angeles, Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, & Washington D.C. Modeling was my entry way into the fashion industry, and thanks to it I discovered that styling and curating pieces was my ultimate passion!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. Being a creative or a freelance artist does not always provide financial stability. I often times took breaks from creative projects to focus on financial stability from a 9 to 5 and sometimes those long breaks would result in me losing the momentum I built consistently creating and posting my work.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a model, wardrobe stylist, and curator. I am known for my wardrobe styling, but I am currently in the process of transitioning to sourcing/personal shopping for those who lack the time or resources to find pieces for their wardrobe. I think what sets me apart from others and what I am most proud of is my keen eye for design or a great garment, my product knowledge, and my taste.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think people would be surprised at the fact that I am a pretty shy/reserved person unless I really know you. It takes me awhile to open up to people.
