Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamille Rodriguez.

Hi Kamille, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Kamille Rodriguez is a highly skilled Visual Development Artist and Illustrator based in LA. She studied at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and at Parsons the New School in NYC. She began her career as a freelance illustrator before moving into commercial advertising. After a fulfilling career as a Motion Designer and Art Director in the New York advertising scene, Kamille is now focused on entertainment design for clients such as Netflix, Disney, Sony, Warner Bros., BUCK, Apple, and more. One of her most notable contributions was creating designs for the Emmy award winning Netflix series “Ask The Storybots”.

The rare times when Kamille is not at her desk, she can be found haunting local antique book shops with her fourth cup of coffee in hand, or roaming the parks with her pup.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Throughout her life, Kamille has faced significant personal and professional challenges that have shaped both her career and her perspective as an artist. While pursuing her undergraduate degree, she lost her mother to pancreatic cancer—a profound turning point that strengthened her determination to move forward and pursue the creative career her family had always encouraged. Her parents had been unwavering supporters of her artistic ambitions, and honoring that support became a driving force in her journey.

After overcoming obstacles during her undergraduate studies, Kamille earned her BFA in Illustration and made the bold decision to continue her education by pursuing an MFA in Design and Technology in New York City. Moving across the country meant leaving behind her family, friends, and everything familiar in pursuit of new opportunities within an ever-evolving creative industry.

Adjusting to life in New York came with its own challenges. The fast-paced culture, demanding work environment, and absence of a local support system required resilience and adaptability. Yet those same challenges became catalysts for growth. Surrounded by talented artists and designers who were equally passionate about their craft, Kamille found inspiration, built lasting professional relationships, and gained the confidence to pursue increasingly ambitious goals.

She first established herself as a creative professional in the advertising industry before making another major career pivot into concept art for games and animation. Transitioning into a highly competitive field meant starting over in many ways, but her willingness to embrace uncertainty, continuously learn, and persevere ultimately opened the door to a career creating visual worlds and stories for leading studios. Today, Kamille views every obstacle not as a setback, but as an opportunity to grow, evolve, and push her craft to the next level.

Kamille Rodriguez is a visual development artist, concept artist, and illustrator with over a decade of experience creating immersive worlds for animation, games, and entertainment. Her work combines strong fundamentals in composition, color, lighting, and environment design with a passion for visual storytelling. Having collaborated with studios including Disney, Netflix, Sony Pictures Animation, Warner Bros., and Night School Studio, Kamille specializes in developing compelling visual narratives from early concepts through production-ready artwork. Whether designing environments, creating color scripts, or mentoring aspiring artists, she is dedicated to using thoughtful design and artistic craftsmanship to bring stories to life.

What does success mean to you?
Success means something different to everyone, and its meaning often changes as we grow and discover what truly fulfills us beyond society’s expectations. Early in my career, success meant building an impressive client list. I worked hard to collaborate with well-known studios because I believed it would make me a stronger, more marketable artist, and it did.

But after years of client work, I realized I was craving something more. I wanted to create artwork that challenged me creatively, reflected my own voice, and explored ideas I couldn’t always pursue in a production environment. Personal work became a space to experiment, take risks, and grow as an artist.

Ironically, it was through those personal projects that new professional opportunities began to emerge. When clients started approaching me because of the work I created for myself, not just the work I had created for others, I felt I had reached a new definition of success. Today, success isn’t measured by the names on my résumé, but by the ability to make meaningful work that is authentically my own while inspiring opportunities to tell stories that truly resonate with me.
