Check Out Jasmine Isiguzo’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Isiguzo.

Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
At some point during my preteen years, my mom became a Mary Kay representative; which now gave her access to prestige cosmetic and skin care products. Whenever my mom hosted events, and skincare came up, my eyes and ears opened with interest and fascination. From that point I now began to raid her skincare inventory and a new interest began.

For a long time, skin and self care was just a love interest for me and there was no thought into making it a career. However, I didn’t stray far from the field of wellness and ultimately received my B.S in Kinesiology: Exercise Science. Once graduating, I obtained different jobs working with the youth, but in my spare time I would research skincare ingredients, create recipes to help my eczema, find ways to elevate my skincare routine, etc.

Around 2019, my older sister was enrolled in Santa Monica’s Cosmetology program. It was then that she realized the skincare classes she was taking in her program, was the same information I was researching and becoming knowledgeable in. That’s when she highly recommended I enroll into an Esthetician program to further a passion I clearly have.

I had no intention of going back to school, but with time I realized something larger is at hand and I enrolled into Santa Monica’s Esthetician program and began my Esthetics journey.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the most difficult challenges I encountered working for myself, is creating a firm bridge between social media and my professional practice. As the internet evolved, I quickly realized social media was something I didn’t care for.

Fast forward to now, licensed professionals are expected to create, film and edit content just to be appealing to the masses. Luckily I have been able to find a balance, while staying true to myself. But it doesn’t take away from the fact that it was a hurdle.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Within my scope of practice, I chose to specialize in facial services, where I offer extractions, microdermabrasion, LED light therapy, etc. At the moment, I’m most proud of having a private suite to perform my services. Regardless of the skin severity, individuals tend to be anxious and self conscious about their skin. When clients leave JD Skin & Body, they leave with not only a sense of peace with their skin, but more educated to maintain and nurture it.
