Today we’d like to introduce you to Callie Leo.
Hi Callie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I bought my first camera at the end of 2019 as a hobby while working in hospitality. In 2020, COVID slowed my industry to a screeching halt, and I dove into photography full-time. It’s been 6 years and hundreds of sessions. I’ve photographed clients from their engagement and wedding to their second baby’s in-home newborn session. I’m honored to watch their families grow and really am so grateful when clients choose me to capture these moments in their lives.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been some highs and lows for sure. A big struggle along the way for me was giving myself grace to be new and learning. I wanted to be the best right away, and I had to remind myself that I needed to slow down, make mistakes, and find my editing style. All of those things take time, and it was a challenge to be patient.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a natural light maternity, family, and newborn photographer. My style is very candid and moody. Honestly, I’m most proud that in 6 years I have never had a client not like their photos. I think what sets me apart from others is that sessions with me are fun, loving, real, and zero-pressure. If your baby is crying before your newborn session, that’s ok! It’s nothing a nice warm blanket and a snuggle can’t fix. If your 3-year-old skipped their nap for our 7:30 pm session and is having a meltdown? Been there! I got one at home! We will play in the waves and get some candid shots. If you’re feeling shy about your maternity session because you don’t know how to pose? You don’t need to! I’ll literally tell you and your partner what to do, we have a little laugh, and you just created a raw candid moment without even trying!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Every year, the night before Thanksgiving, my mom, aunts, and their friends would come over and help my mom prep for the next day. I loved falling asleep listening to them tell stories, laugh, and the smell of them prepping and cooking while I drifted off to sleep. It is a memory I still go to often. My happy place.
