Check Out Bobby Sutton’s Story

Hi Bobby, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Austin, Texas and I moved out to California to go to school. It was a nice change of scenery and felt good to live in a new place and meet new people. More than anything, I attribute where I am today to all my friends and family members, old and new. They’ve helped shape my personality, work ethic, and being whether I consciously notice it or not. In short, I make things. I’ve always had an affinity towards creating so I would say my path of imaginativeness started from a very young age. The spectrum in which I make things is very broad. I enjoy music, more traditional visual art, making films, textiles, etc. I find that making cohesive projects fulfills a certain joy in my life, and those projects vary in different mediums. My latest project I just finished is called “SHEESH!” it’s a full-length album with 12 tracks and a lot of people around me call are describing it as a motion picture soundtrack to my life. I used samples of my friends, cartoons we used to watch and created a soundscape that paints my life in its current state.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, the road is never smooth for anyone. If anyone says, it is they’re probably lying. I think that’s one universal thread that connects a lot of people; going through things that are really really tough. I’ve had experiences with death, heartbreak, emotional stress, loss of friends, creative blocks, physical upsets, injustice, existential dread, lack of purpose, understanding everything comes and goes…the list goes on. The key thing amongst a lot of this mess is getting up every day, however slow or fast, and seeing the beauty still left in the world. So doing my part in spreading that beauty and love around is a lot easier said than done but I do try to reach that goal.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make art. I have two things that I would say I specialize in and that’s music and visual art, and a lot of people around me know me for both. I paint and draw mostly in my downtime and the other half of my time, I write and produce music. I am most proud of the album I just put out. Same as the one mentioned earlier but it feels a lot different than a lot of music that I am currently listening to because I tried to build this swirling orchestra of a world inside the record. Every track floods into one another and I really honed in on atmosphere and sensation. Taking all of the emotions and senses inside of my own head and projecting it into this project. I produced and arranged everything you hear on the record and the idea of manifesting a specific world within each future record is something I want to continue.

How do you think about happiness?
Dancing. Being able to listen to music and move your body is something that legitimately brings joy to me. Family. We play a lot of board games at my house and being able to sit with my family and just ham it up is something that always makes me feel good. Being on a roof. I think sitting on top of a roof is definitely on my list. Something about looking around the neighborhood or city and being high off the ground is super satisfying, and to watch the sunset from a roof…incredible. Friends. This one is obvious.
