Brandon Wollner of Chatsworth on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Brandon Wollner shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Brandon, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Who are you learning from right now?
Everyone I can. There’s always new information, new tech, a different perspective– you have to approach every day as a potential learning experience. If you’re always learning something new, you’re always growing. Everyone has something to share, be it clients, peers, my crew. Whether it be a good or bad experience, it’s always educational.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Brandon Wollner, and I help run What You Want Productions, a full‑service event production company specializing in LED wall rentals here in Los Angeles. I’ve built this company around one core idea: events deserve visuals and Av services that are custom, reliable, and professionally executed from start to finish.

My team and I provide high‑quality LED video walls, custom configurations, and expert technicians who handle everything — delivery, setup, calibration, live operation, and more. We support weddings, corporate events, concerts, nightlife, and large‑scale immersive experiences across Southern California, and we’re known for making the visual side of an event completely stress‑free for our clients.

I take pride in combining technical precision with creative vision. Whether it’s a clean, modern LED backdrop or a full panoramic display, we make sure every screen looks flawless and elevates the entire atmosphere of the event.
If you’re looking for professional LED wall rentals in Los Angeles with a team that actually cares about the final result, that’s exactly what we do at What You Want Productions.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
There are a lot of moments that come to mind around this question. I think one of the best moments that stands out for my journey to create What You Want Productions and really shape the direction of my life was attending my first massive rave in Los Angeles.

My friends and I went to Together As One at the L.A. Sports Arena and Coliseum in 2001, and that night completely changed how I saw music, community, and what I wanted to do with my life.
It was the first time I truly understood how music doesn’t just bring people to the same place — it brings them together. Forty‑five thousand people dancing under the night sky, surrounded by DJs, lights, visuals, lasers… it was overwhelming in the best way.
The moment that really hit me was right around midnight during the countdown. I was in the middle of the crowd, everyone jumping and moving in perfect unison, nobody thinking about tomorrow, just fully present in the energy of that moment. I remember looking around and thinking, “Wow… this is incredible.”
That feeling — that connection, that atmosphere, that shared experience — was the spark. That was the moment I knew: this is what I wanted to be part of, and this is what I wanted to help create for others.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. There have been many times where I almost gave up. Specifically back around 2011. I was still in college, trying to start my business, and dealing with rebuilding my current home and relationships. I was sitting in class at L.A.V.C. coming back from a long weekend of setting up speakers, Djing, and driving, and I realized that I was in so much pain that I could not even pay attention in class. I ended up leaving in the middle of the lecture and went home and stayed in bed for almost a week. After that I went to the doctors and over a course of 3 months found out I had 2 bulging discs, a tear in my lover left side, and had pulled a tendon in my left shoulder amongst other health issues. Because of all the pain and issues, I actually had to stop working and drop out of school. It took me almost 2 years to recover and start back where I left off. Everyone told me to do something else. Everyone was constantly telling me this would never amount to anything and I was wasting my time. Everyone insisted on me “finding a real career”. I did not listen. I kept pursuing my passion, my goals, and my love for doing live events. I never gave up on my dreams and now, some of those people who thought I would never succeed are actually asking if they can work for my business. Its truly a blessing to be where I am today and I will never forget the long hours, pain, and obstacles I have been through to get here.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
Energy is everything. It’s the one constant that shapes how we experience the world — whether it’s the sound coming through the speakers, the light from the LED screens hitting your eyes, or even the simple touch of a friend you haven’t seen in years. At the end of the day, it’s all just different forms of energy.

What I do is really about helping transform that energy. Everyone goes through tough moments. Everyone gets frustrated, overwhelmed, or hits a low point at some stage in their life. My goal is to create as many positive experiences as possible and help turn those heavy moments into something lighter, something uplifting.

Sometimes that shift comes from a funny visual on a screen. Sometimes it’s a perfectly executed surprise birthday reveal. Sometimes it’s the moment a newly married couple steps onto the floor for their first dance. Whatever the moment is, my team and I work to make it unforgettable — a moment where all the stress, worries, and negative energy fall away, even if just for a little while.

That’s what life is really about. And that’s what I hope to share with every person I cross paths with on this journey.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
The entertainment industry isn’t glamorous in the way people imagine. Most of the work happens in the shadows — long nights, late load‑outs, and very few thank‑yous. But that’s never been the reason I show up. I chose this industry, and I pour everything I have into it, because I get to be part of moments that genuinely matter in people’s lives.
I get the chance to make someone’s night a little brighter, a little more fun, a little more unforgettable.

I’ve stood at EDC Las Vegas, performing in front of hundreds of thousands of people, feeling the electricity of a crowd moving as one. And I’ve stood quietly at family events, watching parents and grandparents tear up as a lifetime of memories plays across our LED walls. Both moments carry the same weight — the same energy — because they’re real, human, and shared.

There’s nothing that compares to being invited into those experiences. The energy, the connection, the emotion… that’s the reward. Any praise that comes afterward is just a bonus. The real fulfillment is knowing I helped create a moment someone will remember for the rest of their life.
