An Inspired Chat with Wesley Raymond Espinoza-Hull

Wesley Raymond Espinoza-Hull shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Wesley Raymond, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Morning Prayer & Affirmation followed by Feeding the dogs, Running 2.5 Miles, Say Goodbye to my Husband, Adrian Paul Espinoza-Hull, as he leaves for work, Walking the dogs & Starting my Gym Routine.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
It’s always my pleasure! I’m Wesley Raymond Espinoza-Hull. I am a nightclub Owner & Operator in Pomona, California for Flexx Pomona, California’s Largest LGBTQIA+ Venue that is 18+. I am working on starting over in the business with new concepts to showcase the wide diversity in the LGBTQIA+ Community. I’ve just begun and have such a long way to go. What’s been comfortable for me is doing Open Stage Drag Competitions for 30+ Years! The market is changing and I’m looking forward to creating something magical as always!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
For me, what restores people is spiritual journeys. Everything happens for a reason and if you learn valuable lessons in your worst times it can be the most rewarding and fulfilling when keeping an open mind to everyone and everything.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Most recently actually. I’m still working on it all but sometimes I am surprised at this point in my life realizing how much I don’t know and how far I still have to go. At the same time that’s also what motivates me. I’ve always been a grass roots guy through and through no matter what, so it does make sense, but it’s just mind blowing when you get to different points in your life and realize, WOW, I’m learning so much right now or things didn’t go as I thought they would, Something did not stay on track and what do I do now? It’s pretty incredible how quick we can adapt as human beings when pressed.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
Thinking my way is the right way. I changed my perception about 5-6 Years ago and started to appreciate those who had an opinion different than mine. I think it makes the world more colorful and just. It’s also been the most challenging thing as well because people can really misjudge you or put you in a box, which is very sad. We are all different and we all are so unique and precious as individuals.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I honestly do believe that I’m doing what I was born to do, Entertain. When I was a small child, I used to put on plays and shows at home, Going around the neighborhood giving tickets to neighbors and inviting them to our home where my Best Friend Maureen Blake now Maureen Iglesias and I would sing and dance for them. Setting up the living room as a theater. One time we did the show in the garage and set up the theater style seating in the driveway. At the end of the show my mom, Jetta Rose Hull, said I would hand a basket around and say “this isn’t free” lol. So I feel this was part of my destiny for sure! My Grandfather was a tap dancer in Vaudeville, so I believe I have those genes, but there is also a spiritual desire or calling I feel is not yet fulfilled.
