An Inspired Chat with Wendy Alcala

Wendy Alcala shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Wendy, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What battle are you avoiding?
Honestly, I battle myself on a daily. As humans we want to do what ‘feels’ right and what we’re in the mood to do that given day. I have to battle myself to think bigger than that. I tell myself “follow the plan not the mood” so I keep myself in check when I just want to couch rot. 90% of the time it works, the other 10% I might just need some rest.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Wendy Alcala a content creator, storyteller, and one of three voices behind A La Orden Pal Desorden, a Spanish podcast on YouTube and Spotify. At my core, I’m someone who’s always been more interested in real life than curated perfection. The podcast is where a lot of that comes to life. A La Orden Pal Desorden is basically three Mexicans in the U.S. unpacking life as we’re living it. The identity shifts, the culture clashes, the healing, the humor, the contradictions, and everything in between. We talk openly about what it looks like to try to build “order” while embracing the inevitable chaos that comes with being human, being Mexican-American, and figuring things out in real time. My personal brand reflects that same energy. I create content around beauty, lifestyle, and self-awareness, but always through an honest lens. I’m not interested in pretending I have it all figured out (cause truly I don’t) I’m more focused on asking better questions, naming the uncomfortable stuff, and creating spaces where people feel seen and understood. Right now, I’m focused on continuing to grow the podcast and my platform as places for real conversation, reflection, and connection where people can laugh, relate, and maybe feel a little less alone in their own “desorden.”

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
The last time I truly felt like myself before outside influences, expectations, and opinions got loud was when I was a kid. When you’re little, you’re not trying to impress anyone. You’re just existing as yourself. The people-pleasing is quiet, the self-expression is on max, and you don’t question whether you’re “too much” or not enough. I miss that version of me. And honestly, a lot of my inner work now is about finding my way back to her. The girl who expressed herself freely, without judgment or fear, before the outside noise started telling her to tone it down. Every day, I try to choose her again. The unfiltered, expressive, and unapologetically herself version.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that’s held me back the most has been the fear of being perceived. The fear of being seen, heard, and potentially labeled as “too much.” For a long time, that fear kept me quiet, second-guessing myself, shrinking parts of who I am so I wouldn’t stand out or make anyone uncomfortable. Starting A La Orden Pal Desorden has been a direct confrontation with that fear. Having a platform where I speak my mind openly, and share my real thoughts and experiences has forced me to show up authentically instead of hiding. And I’ve learned that the best way to overcome a fear isn’t to wait until it goes away it’s to do the thing anyway and prove yourself wrong. Every time I speak honestly, I remind myself that being seen isn’t something to fear. It’s something to own.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
I differentiate fads from real foundational shifts by paying attention to what actually stays when the excitement wears off. Fads usually feel loud, urgent, and external they tell you who to be, how to act, and promise quick transformation if you follow the formula. Foundational shifts, on the other hand, are quieter. They don’t need constant validation. They change how you think, how you move, and how you make decisions when no one is watching. A real shift shows up in consistency, not performance. It changes your boundaries, your self-talk, and the way you respond to situations over time. If something only exists for the camera or the trend cycle, it fades. If it reshapes your values and how you live day-to-day, that’s when I know it’s real.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Caring what people thought of me. I’d spend more time with the people who matter most to me.
