We recently had the chance to connect with Wayne Smith Jr and have shared our conversation below.
Wayne, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Well, it depends on how my night before has gone. If I plan my day out the night before, I pop up, maybe hit a 10 minute meditation, check my phone for emails, and try to deal with my anxiety. A huge wave of anxiety and being scared for the rest of the day is mitigated by me going on autopilot while getting ready for either work or working out. Staying in bed is always a pain, as it gives me time to think and not act.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
So I am Wayne Smith. I go by BigmanBeats for my artistry. I started as a producer, making trap beats. My first big hit was with Latto and lightskinkeisha, a song called “do it’. Before that me and my friend group from middle school called “KBJ” made music for pure fun. My whole life has been an endless cycle of passions and hobbies that I used to create a world in my head. I’ve competed in rubiks cube solving, done origami, preformed magic tricks, had youtube channels reviewing computer systems, so much more. Right now I’m producing for G-Preico with a producer named IsThatTrey (childhood friend), executive producing an album for a french artist named “Dirtsa” with the help of another producer by the name of Lucivras, as well asnworking on releasing my own artistry, and I recently got a Kpop song that will release in 2026.. I’m super excited.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
My anxiety and self-image. Before middle school, I saw myself as nobody; I was just doing stuff that I loved. I never liked to be observed. Once i became good at what I did, I just… gained attention… and enjoyed it. From late elementary school to now, I have constantly obsessed over my weight and what others thought, creating vast mysteries within my own mind that continue to hold me down. It’s like I can’t break through a wall created by my past environment. My friends, notably my boy Jalen COURTNEYY and my father, constantly remind me that I am not that little kid anymore… but it’s not that easy.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would ask them a question and say, “Did you know that you are okay?”. And that’s it. Then give them a sweet treat and a hug.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friend says it’s between music, family, and friends. He thinks I’m multidimensional and not just money hungry. He thinks the way I view and perceive music is so different, and how I feel things so strongly.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop smoking weed, lusting, and hanging with people who don’t align with my morals.
