We’re looking forward to introducing you to Voli Martung. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Voli, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I try to get in the majority of my non-work done in my mornings before getting into my work day. The simple categories are self-care, family, and household. Most days look like:
-Meditate, stretch/mobility, sunlight, work out
-A little bit of family time, get any personal administrative tasks and errands done
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Voli, music recording artist-songwriter-producer. Toggling between Los Angeles and the CT/NY area, I make music focused on good vibes, energy, empowerment, and the issues I’m passionate. I make a livelihood with these songs through licensing them out to brands to use in their projects and campaigns (ie films, shows, commercials, etc.) In the entertainment industry, it’s called sync (synchronization) music and it’s given me professional freedom be a creative that can monetize his works.
My catalog runs the spectrum from hip hop to pop; one track might be a heavy hitting trap joint and the next a fast tempo EDM, which keeps it fresh, fun, and accessible. My hope is that the music can help you push through whatever you’re experiencing, whether it’s a traffic jam, a gym workout, or a moment of feeling unseen or unheard.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That the world favored those who were “naturally lucky”. Turns out hard work, and more importantly, smart work were some the most important ingredients to making luck. Add some consistency and a commitment to not quitting, and you’ll go a long way. I’m pretty bullish on ingraining a strong internal locus of control. We can’t script our lives but we definitely can give it some guidance.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Technically no, but the thought was a frequent visitor! At my weakest points, it wasn’t necessarily strength that kept me going, but ironically I couldn’t strategize my way into doing something else. Any vision I had of not doing music consisted of me being emotionally miserable and financially worse off. I guess I ended up choosing to dig to the other side instead of climbing out of the hole.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Family, health, creativity, and humanity.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Wow. I would most likely focus all my time on creating memories with my family and working. All the other self-care related things that take up my day, I would scrap. My biggest drive is creating generational wealth and leaving my loved ones with memories of good times.
