An Inspired Chat with Vincent Brue of Inglewood

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Vincent Brue. Check out our conversation below.

Vincent, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What battle are you avoiding?
I have a neighbor who has a jetski and it’s parked like halfway on my driveway and I’m super pissed at this dude. Like, get your jetski off my lawn, bro. But he’s also a divorced alcoholic drug addict with severe anger issues, so like, I don’t wanna piss him off too bad and have him burn down our house or anything. I just want the jetski gone. It’s like neon pink and purple, like something outta Miami Vice, mid 80s. Doubt it even works. But it’s just sitting there and we gotta look at it every day. I’m gonna ask him to move it one of these days, hopefully he doesn’t flip his shit. Wish me luck.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi I’m Vincent Brue, singer/songwriter/recording engineer/producer/mixer, leader of The Vincenzos in Los Angeles as well as Vincent Brue and the Long Branch Davidians back in New Jersey. I’m currently working on two new Vincenzos albums and a Long Branch Davidians album, as well as a 100-song solo album. I’ve written and released about 40 albums so far between these bands as well as Lifeguard Nights and The South Jersey Seashore Lifeguard Convention Band. I write a lotta songs, mainly about my life and the wild word in which it exists, and hopefully they will get stuck in your head and make you happy and/or drive you insane.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I thought I was really stupid. Just a really big, dumb, fat, ugly, worthless sack of shit. Total zero. A dud. Shoulda tossed me out at the factory. I was really shy and hated myself. But now I rule.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I think my fear of heights has held me back a ton, because I feel like most record labels and executives are probably like in Penthouse suites in high-rise buildings, and I’m way too chicken to go up there. Also I hear that a lot of music deals get done on rooftops, water towers and/or during skydiving sessions, so again, kinda shooting myself in the foot with this acrophobia!

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I think the biggest lie the music industry tells itself is that they shouldn’t be throwing millions of dollars at me and my bands. Like, I’m right here, writing hits, with some of the most incredible hair any rock star has had since Donny Osmond, and yet…nothing. I think they’re just jealous, mainly, and I don’t blame them.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
All the time. Nothing satisfies me. I am a broken husk of fulfilled desires.
