Tim Finnegan shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Tim, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I would say that when I wake up in the morning and I can’t think of anything but entertainment and music and comedy gigs, then I’m meant to be an entertainer.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an LA-based comedian, actor, and singer-songwriter, and I take on any opportunities that come my way. I’ve performed in various comedy gigs at comedy clubs around Los Angeles, and I have also traveled to various parts of the country to perform in comedy showcases I get selected for. It’s always an honor to be selected for showcases so that I can put myself out there and network with many people who are also in the same field I’m in.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I previously lived in the Midwest, grew up in Chicago, then lived in Madison, WI before I moved to Los Angeles. When I previously lived in Madison, I used to work as a teaching assistant in schools but I never really liked that job and that was never what I wanted to do for a living. Once I was done working in schools, I then started to plan for my move to LA which was always my dream home since I’ve always been passionate about the entertainment industry, and it was great to officially make my dream come true. LA is the place to be for all the entertainment and it’s the land of opportunity. And my comedy career and entertainment career has been amazing ever since I’ve moved to LA.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was one time that I almost gave up on my dream of living in LA when things didn’t go as planned when I first moved to LA. I didn’t live in the best two apartments/houses and I had to move out right away. And when I ran into some troubles with my living situation as well as my financial situation, I almost thought I was going to leave LA and move to a cheaper city or other part of the country, but I was glad I did not make that huge mistake of leaving LA since I never really wanted to leave LA at all. If I had left LA, I would have lost all the opportunities I’ve gotten when I do comedy gigs, be part of film sets, etc. And I knew all along that everything would work out in the end and I didn’t let my self doubts win. And I’ve always known that when I follow a dream, I never give up and never let my doubters win.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to continuing to perform more comedy gigs as my comedy career takes off. And I’m also committed to keep auditioning for shows no matter how many years it takes to make it in the industry I’ve always been passionate about.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story I would hope for people to tell about me when I’m gone is my story about when I first moved to LA to follow my dreams and how I kept being persistent and never gave up. I believe my story would inspire anyone who follows their dreams.
