An Inspired Chat with Tammy Kaitz of Los Angeles

We recently had the chance to connect with Tammy Kaitz and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tammy, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Thank you CanvasRebel for reaching out to me again and wanting updates on my life. The answer to the question is that my mornings are about the same almost every day. We get up early as we love the time before the world really wakes up. I make my morning cup of coffee, watch the morning news and sit to read the Los Angeles Times Newspaper. This is the time I gift to myself. So if I have a busy day that starts early, I just get up earlier than that for my caffeine and my newspaper fix. There is something about holding the printed paper in my hands that focuses me!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an actress. I started acting locally on stage in local theatres in Denver (where I am originally from) as a preteen and never stopped. After studying theatre in college and London, I moved out to LA and have been here ever since. I love being on stage but have found the work in front of the camera shooting Feature Film or Televison just as rewarding. Most recently, I starred in and produced MOTEL ROOM, which screened in Film Festivals around the world, won tons of awards and is now up on my YouTube Channel to be shared with others. I am also proud of the very funny feature film Man Camp (I have the female lead) which can still be seen on Amazon!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
This question has so many layers to peel back. At a young age, I lost my father, uncle and grandfather in 24 hours. Having experienced such tragedy so young, I have lived my life knowing that there are no guarantees about tomorrow, so I really try to make the most out of each and every day and to value true friendships. An unexpected accident can randomly happen (my father and uncle were killed in a United Airline crash) and one’s course in life is forever changed. So I really try not to take anything for granted and appreciate each and every day!

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
When our son was 14, he was dx with stage 3 cancer. I lived with him at Children’s Hospital during his cancer battle. So many children did not survive… Even after our son’s remission, every pore on my body from head to toe was about, consumed with pediatric cancer and the scary path we had just walked. My brain thought about kid cancer 24/7. Someone offered me a role on stage a year after his remission, and I felt like Dorthy in The Wizard of Oz when the screen goes from black and white to color. The curtains parted on stage and I began living life again and the world made sense. Over the years, I am proud to share that I have raised $$$$$ for Pediatric Cancer Research (which is the least funded of any cancer research). For 3 years I hiked with a fabulous team of folks for CureSearch. I see myself always being involved raising awareness and money for this cause.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That there is no work. If you own your artistry, that can’t be taken away from you, so live your life being creative. I LOVE working on indi films, as the work fills my soul. And there are always people writing scripts and producers passionate about telling a story!

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I think of my hubby (we are childhood sweethearts!), 2 sons and new daughter in-law and know that they are doing GREAT! And of course, when I am working on something creatively!
