An Inspired Chat with Shannon Chappell of North Hollywood

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Shannon Chappell. Check out our conversation below.

Shannon, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day I start with God and self. As soon as I wake up in the morning I pray (thanking God for waking me up), then I read my bible scripture from the app, then my D365 daily devotion. After that, I get cleaned up, drink my protein shake, then head to the gym. I take a HIIT class, then personal training right after.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Shannon Chappell, the founder of Scentual Soothers, a lifestyle brand created to inspire peace, purpose, and self-connection through scent and intention. My journey started with a personal love for candles, self-care, and inner healing, which led me to create products that do more than simply smell good—they soothe the soul. Each candle is crafted with natural ingredients, unique scent blends, gemstones, and affirmations designed to help people cultivate self-love, manifest their dreams, and invite tranquility into their everyday lives.

What makes Scentual Soothers unique is the way it combines wellness, spirituality, and sensory experience. I wanted to create something that feels both grounding and luxurious, a tool for people to pause, breathe, and reconnect with themselves. Beyond candles, I’m also working on expanding into storytelling through my podcast and writing, weaving together messages of transformation, faith, and purpose.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My mom taught me the most about work. She’s a serial entrepreneur and has always been a powerful example of resilience, discipline, and vision. From her, I learned the importance of hard work, professionalism, and paying attention to the details—always crossing my T’s and dotting my I’s. She instilled in me that no matter what path I choose, excellence and integrity should always be at the core.

Watching her build, create, and lead gave me the confidence to step into entrepreneurship myself. She showed me that success doesn’t come overnight, but through consistency, faith, and determination. Even now, when I’m faced with challenges, I often think back to her advice and example—it’s what keeps me grounded and motivated.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Right now, actually. With the weight of the world and the current economy, small businesses everywhere are feeling the impact, and I’ve definitely seen a difference in profit margins this year compared to previous ones. It’s frustrating and, at times, discouraging. But through it all, God continues to assure me that He is in control, and that reminder gives me the strength to keep going.

Instead of giving up, I’ve used this season to expand and evolve—growing Scentual Soothers beyond candles into writing, podcasting, and creating new products that align with my mission of peace and purpose. I remind myself often: I didn’t come this far just to come this far. This is simply a rough patch, and I know every business experiences challenges. What matters is staying the course, trusting the process, and continuing to move forward with faith.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Right now, my podcast is the project I’m most committed to—no matter how long it takes. This vision came directly from God, and it’s been placed so heavily on my heart that I know I have no choice but to follow through. Even though I’m a one-woman show, balancing all the hats of entrepreneurship while also working a full-time job, I remain dedicated to the process.

It’s not always easy, but I trust that if God gave me this vision, He will also provide the strength and resources to see it through. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to create something that can inspire and uplift others, and I’m committed to honoring this calling until it’s fully realized.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I just recently moved, and right now I feel most at peace when I’m at home in my new place. My home is truly my sanctuary—I’ve decorated it so beautifully that the moment you walk in, you can feel the peace and serenity. Being there allows me to turn off the noise of the outside world and focus on what really matters to me. Plus, let’s be honest—it’s also a lot cheaper to enjoy peace at home than to be out spending money. LOL!
