We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ryan Shah. Check out our conversation below.
Ryan, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
What makes me lose track of time is creating. The moment I’m behind a camera or building a visual world, everything else disappears. I get lost in the process but in a good way. That flow is where I feel the most like myself.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Ryan Shah, a director and editor who builds visual worlds for music and brand stories. I’ve worked with artists like Post Malone, Tyla Yaweh, French Montana and Guru Randhawa, and I’ve always been drawn to the emotional side of filmmaking. My background is a mix of self-taught learning and film school, which gives me a balance of instinct and craft. Right now I’m focused on creating music videos that feel cinematic and designing new visual brands that stand out. I like work that makes people feel something real.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Distance forms when people stop listening to each other. When ego gets louder than understanding, the bond starts to slip. What restores it is honesty. A real conversation, a moment of vulnerability, or just showing up without expecting anything back. Small things rebuild trust.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me depth. It showed me the parts of myself I would have never discovered through wins alone. It made me more grounded, more grateful and more compassionate. Success can lift you, but suffering shapes you. It gives you a strength that feels real.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They’d probably say that what matters to me is creating something meaningful and keeping my circle strong. I’m always chasing improvement, but I never forget the people who’ve been with me from the start. That balance means everything to me.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m creating. When I’m fully absorbed in a shot, an idea or a moment on set, everything else fades. That focus feels like meditation to me.
