An Inspired Chat with Maxamil

We recently had the chance to connect with Maxamil and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Maxamil, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
One of my biggest objectives with my brand and what I do content wise is to build community. So hearing the stories of how people are connected now from my last event truly made me happy. My passions have brought me nothing but joy so that was amazing to hear recently!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi I’m Maxamil. I’m the owner of the clothing brand Wasted Youth Crew and I also just embarked on my content creator journey. WYC is all about creativity and community as I show through my upcycled clothes I make! I’ve been making videos since I was a kid but this is my first year of posting on Tik Tok and now I’ve ventured into doing YouTube again. I want to make long form content fun again for people to watch, although I also enjoy making raw, unedited, short form content

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My parents. Since Day 1 they’ve been telling me I have a light about me. A light that shines on me. That statement didn’t matter to me much at first because I didn’t understand but it has gotten me through a lot. As I get older I’ve began to understand and acknowledge this light and it feels great to know they are right.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Being humble and staying grounded. Speaking on how you move and not moving is a pain I’ve dealt with before. A lesson I’m still learning and that is hard for many people I see. Working a day to day job takes away from my creativity as well but it gets me by right now. I’m hungry now so in the future my family can eat meals like it’s the last. Suffering now will get me to the success in the near future.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
My public version of me is mostly real. It also depends on what sides of media you look at me for. Instagram is well put together, I almost treat it as my portfolio or gallery. So it’s true to an extent but I’m not looking cool every day I’m still bummy at times. Which you’d see probably more on my TikTok where I’m really just yapping but even then some collaborations have been staged. But no matter how you look at it I’m Maxamil and Maxamil is me to some degree.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I inspired. I left culture and blueprints to the next generation after me. I gave some young black kids someone to look up to like how I looked up to my idols. My friends and family to reminisce on good times that I’ve shared or given them. I want people to know that I’m doing/did my best.
