An Inspired Chat with Jenny Huynh

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jenny Huynh. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Jenny, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I think these are all important and amazing traits, but I lean heavy onto integrity. I think it is essential as it helps build long lasting and meaningful relationships. I hold myself to a standard where I value integrity and act on it when it is applicable. If I say I’m going to do it, I will do my best to, unless circumstances change and I am able to make peace with not delivering.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m A.M.S., short for my music project name, “Alpha Mother Supreme,” but you can call me Jenny. I’m a first gen Vietnamese American born in North Carolina, currently residing in Southern California. I’m a singer-songwriter and I strive to make music that makes you feel and heal. I create a blend of bedroom pop with synth-y, spacey soundscapes that take your mind off the stressful things and make your heart flutter. I want you to recall how your first kiss felt, how that breakup tore your soul into pieces, how hope is right there on the horizon if you hang on just a little longer. A little chaotic and 100% therapeutic, I hope my music brings you to a place that’s a bit deeper than what you thought you knew about the world and yourself. All my work in available on all platforms for you to experience.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
This was sometime in 4th grade, there was this easel in the classroom and everybody must have been on break or something because I was surrounded by a couple of classmates. I was sitting in the easel, wooden panels meeting at a point above me like a little house. I don’t know who asked me to sing but I did, and the way my class mates silenced themselves to hear me has stuck with me after all these years. It felt like the world hushed itself just to hear what I had to say, stopped in its tracks to trust that what I sang might make them feel something. Sure, there is power in money and fame, but I discovered my power of being heard when I sang in that classroom that day. Not only will my lullabies put you to sleep, you will also have no choice but to listen.

Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
I miss my innocence. It was stolen from me at a very early age, but I remember what it was like. I was powerful in my lack of knowledge in the world. Nobody and nothing told me I had to not be, not yet. I saw that fearlessness through my play time with my cousins, always roleplaying as Nezha because he’s cool and has fire skates, fire hoop, and fire staff. The way we all laughed and re-enacted the scenes of Journey to the West, jumping so high into the sky during fight scenes, we could taste the stars. Fireflies in June were my friends, breeze on my skin as I stepped out the house, feverish from the summer heat. The way I dumped nasty food my guardians forced me to eat onto the roof so the pigeons could eat it for me. Nothing could hurt me, at least not yet. I wish I had that little girl a bit longer.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I really do believe that I am protected by my ancestors. I don’t have any proof, not even a tiny bit. I just feel it.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I’m sitting on the sand right in front of the waters at the beach. The waves are like white noise, all my worries wash away.
