An Inspired Chat with Hasani McLean-Davis

We recently had the chance to connect with Hasani McLean-Davis and have shared our conversation below.

Hasani, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Opening up my day with reading the Bible and prayer, setting up my foundation for the day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! My name is Hasani and I’m a singer/songwriter originally from Los Angeles! I have written different music over the years but now I represent myself as a Christian artist writing music for Jesus and giving God the glory! I think what makes me special is I make music for the church but the world listens because of my relatability and genuine faith. I’d say someone that I am fond of and connect my artistry to is Forrest Frank. I love the way he sounds like a blend of pop and gospel mixed together! I’m currently working on a new Christian album now that’ll be out very soon!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
I had some fantastic mentors in the church I grew up in. They taught me everything about music from how to perform correctly to harmonizing and so much more. Watching them go into the mainstream media while keeping their faith was the biggest takeaway for me to be honest. There’s sometimes a stigma in the church world that you cannot go into the secular world and still maintain a relationship with God, they showed me that was simply not the case. I was able to overcome any fear I had because they showed me it was possible. They also taught me about why the work matters to me, what’s my why? Super important! I give them so much credit even to this day for still being great examples to look up to!

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering I think became “meaningful”suffering overtime because I was able to understand why certain things happened the way they did, and it taught me that it’s not all in vain! Jesus is a perfect example to me of meaningful suffering, because he was in ultimate purpose at the same time which is amazing to me!

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’d say what you see is what you get! I think the goal should be the public person and the person in private are one and the same. That’s when true security and self love comes into play as best they can to me. The moment those two people are different you start to become a facade and ultimately your life will start to feel fake.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people know how much my faith played a part in my life, and that my calling and gifts are not from me but they’re given by the grace of God, and ultimately I want to bring people closer to him! They can say Hasani had a true Christ like character!
