We’re looking forward to introducing you to Grace Bosley. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Grace, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My Dyson vacuum cleaner. It has this little green light on it that shows you everything on the ground and makes vacuuming feel like a game – got to suck everything up! It truly brings me so much joy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Grace Bosley, an actress and producer with a passion for telling genre heavy stories. I love everything from fantasy to Sci-fi to thriller and everything in between. My work centers on telling emotionally grounded, character-driven stories, especially stories that explore resilience and the quieter moments that shape who we become. As an actress, I’m drawn to roles that feel honest and layered. My brand is to bring an emotional truth and vulnerability to the “tough hottie” roles – think Rachel Weisz from The Favourite or Sigourney Weaver in Alien.
Right now, I’m developing and producing several projects, from a female driven Western to a character driven Sci-fi film in zero gravity. I love being part of teams that value authenticity, curiosity, and creative risk. I’m driven by connecting to my fellow artists in the filmmaking process. The human connection we get from making film is the greatest feeling in the world!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
You know, as a child I dealt with extreme body dysmorphia. I saw every part of myself differently than everyone else saw me. I saw myself as pieces or separate parts and not as one complete person. It was quite crippling. One of my earliest memories is telling my older siblings that “my lips looked like two worms.” It was silly to them, but it revealed that deeper struggle that I was having. This issue sometimes effected my confidence in front of the camera or my desire to be out in the world. Over the years I have been able to combat my delusional feelings about myself with what I consider backwards or healthy “gaslighting”. I have built a reflex to the negative thoughts that says “no, you are wrong” when I feel like I’m having a delusional thought.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of not already being good enough for certain opportunities has held me back from accepting opportunities that would help me grow and become the “good enough” that I feel I need to be to accept those opportunities. How’s that for irony? I am only now learning to let this go and show up as just who I am and not wait to be “good enough.”
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies that this industry tells itself is that things need to be perfect in order to be good. But I believe that the imperfect moments are the best moments. The art lies in the unplanned, in the rawness. There is this great story from the set of Boogie Nights that speaks to this. It’s said that Mark Wahlberg had a moment where he totally froze up and forgot his lines, and he just stared straight ahead not moving. And the story goes that they used that take in the final cut of the film because the expression on his face just conveyed so much emotion and it just worked for that moment. It was unplanned but fit. And it helped make the art something better than could even be imagined or planned. In this art form pre-planning too much is sometimes the thing that will dull it. Seeking perfection will destroy the art.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
She was a risk-taking artist who told stories that meant something to someone. If I can create one piece of work that means as much to someone as Spirited Away means to me for example, then I will be happy with my story.
