We recently had the chance to connect with GALABINA KAMENOVA and have shared our conversation below.
GALABINA, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
I come from a background in professional sports and high-level stage performance, where success was measured by skill and by being better than other athletes. When I began working with clients, I had to make a complete shift in perspective. It was no longer about skill or peak performance, but about meeting people where they are and helping them become stronger and healthier—whatever that means for them at their current level.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a private personal trainer, I create programs for a wide variety of clients from super busy CEO’s to stay-at-home elderly people. I am a former professional gymnast, 6 times national champion of Bulgaria, European bronze medalist, I also worked as an artist with Cirque du Soleil and I have a black belt in judo.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My coaches in gymnastics. They taught me discipline and high work ethic from the age of 6.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, many times, but thank god I had family and friends who helped me stay on track.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The fitness industry lies to itself by believing that harder is always better. We glorify intensity, aesthetics, and elite performance while ignoring the fact that many people are burned out, injured, or simply trying to feel better in their bodies.
Another lie is that there’s one “right” way to be fit—one program, one body type, one standard of success. This mindset leaves most people behind. Real fitness isn’t about chasing someone else’s peak; it’s about meeting people where they are and helping them build strength and health that actually fits their lives.
Finally, the industry pretends that discipline fixes everything, when long-term change comes from understanding, adaptability, and sustainability—not punishment or comparison.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Saying yes out of obligation rather than alignment.
