We’re looking forward to introducing you to Daniela Perez. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Daniela, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work, I’ve been enjoying exploring new experiences, especially after recently getting married. Whether it’s checking out unique coffee shops, attending live music shows, or taking spontaneous road trips, it’s been fun creating new memories and discovering new places. I’ve been pushing myself outside my comfort zone by posting more consistently on social media, which, surprisingly, has opened the door to an amazing opportunity: becoming an Ascuire Arena A-Lister. It’s been exciting to see what stepping out just a little can lead to. On a quieter note, I’ve rediscovered my love for reading. I forgot how much I missed it. I’m reading The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green, which offers meaningful reflections on topics ranging from history to science to pop culture. It’s been an insightful read and definitely deepens the way you look at the world.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Daniela Perez, a Mexican-American raised by two immigrant parents who worked relentlessly to provide for my siblings and me. Their endurance, sacrifices, and unwavering dedication have shaped who I am today, and I credit much of my success to the example they set. I have always been curious about public systems and their impact on society. This interest led me to pursue a degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice at California State University, Fullerton. I later earned a Master’s in Public Administration with a concentration in Human Resources from the same institution. Today, I am proud to work at Cal State Fullerton, where I continue to build on the foundation I established through my academic journey.
My educational path has been enriched by meaningful experiences outside the classroom—volunteering at the Orange County Public Library, interning with Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, and later joining a fellowship with the California Democratic Party of North Orange County. These opportunities deepened my understanding of public policy and its impact on areas such as the workforce, immigration, and shifting demographics. These insights, grounded in both education and hands-on experience, strengthened my passion for advocating for individuals with backgrounds similar to mine.
Ultimately, my goal is to use my education and professional experience to empower others, just as I was empowered by the opportunities I was given. I am committed to serving my community and creating pathways for others to reach their full potential. I also recognize that my learning journey is far from over, and I plan to continue my education by pursuing a doctoral degree. Outside of work, I truly enjoy creating videos and capturing photos as I explore new places and discover emerging local businesses—whether I’m visiting cozy coffee shops, listening to live music, or checking out brand pop-up events. Documenting these experiences brings me a lot of joy.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the countless sacrifices they made to provide for our family. Their work ethic wasn’t something they ever had to explain—it was something I saw every day in the long hours they put in, the physical labor they endured, and the determination they carried despite the challenges they faced. Some of my earliest childhood memories are of accompanying my dad on landscaping jobs. At times, I was pulling weeds, other times helping him make sure the bougainvillea didn’t overtake the other plants—but those moments taught me lessons that have stayed with me. I saw how much pride he took in doing every task, how he treated every client with respect, and how he never complained, even on the hottest days. He showed me that meaningful work isn’t just about the job itself but about the intention, the care, and the discipline you bring to it. My parents also supported my decisions to play sports throughout high school, be involved in extracurricular activities, and get my first job during my senior year. They knew it would help me transition into college and adulthood, and they encouraged me to learn how to manage my responsibilities early on. There were times when balancing school, work, and family obligations felt overwhelming, but my parents’ example of resilience kept me motivated to push through.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to be patient and trust the journey, even though life may seem uncertain at times. I would also remind her not to doubt your abilities; every experience, whether good or hard, will assist her in growing as a person. I would reassure her that she is resilient, capable, and deserving of all opportunities that will come your way, even if you can’t see them yet.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that being there for the people that I care about and supporting them in any way I can. They would tell you I believe in hard work, compassion, loyalty, and having fun, which is the atmosphere that I try to build wherever I go. My closest friends know how deeply I value family, self-development, and my community. I am always hoping to make a difference in any way I can through my work, education, and being there for others.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say I was a great wife, friend, and sister, and that I was always willing to help someone in need. I hope they say I was an adventurous spirit, with a big heart and curious mind. However, not afraid to voice her opinion and stand up for what she believed was right. I would want to inspire others, regardless of their backgrounds, to not be afraid of embracing their passions and overcoming their fears. Life is what we make of it, and can be full of whimsy. I hope to inspire this in anyone I meet, whether online or in person. I was raised by two immigrant parents who worked tirelessly to provide for my siblings and me, with everything going on in the Trump Administration, especially the unlawful ICE Raids. I will speak up for those who can’t and support them anyway I can, with families being torn apart and kids being left without parents.
