We recently had the chance to connect with Chris Sarfin and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
A mix of both. I think it’s healthy to have a general sense of where you’re going but not knowing all the details. That’s what keeps things interesting and exciting.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a director, writer, and producer of films. I’ve helped work on numerous films and TV shows in the industry at various places in Hollywood. At the moment, I’m expanding my brand as an independent filmmaker with stories that often have a hopeful point of view. I also recently directed the short film ‘Velora,’ a film about a character who gets transported into the world of an arcade machine.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Probably in my early 20s, when I first moved to Hollywood. That period brought a lot of change, as it does for most people at that time in their lives. In fact, I’m learning that a lot of the characters I write are heavily rooted in that time of life. It’s that time when you feel boundless freedom. You know enough, but not quite enough. It was a time that made me see the world with endless possibilities.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Chill out dude.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
It’s an extension of myself, but not all of me. In my early 20s, I sorta built this alter-ego that could be used as a mask while navigating through the industry. It definitely helped to a certain extent. But I’ve been told I’m much funnier than people would expect, which always makes me laugh. Usually whenever people think they know me, they almost always have it wrong. But nowadays, I’m all about authenticity.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I think my story lives in the stories I tell. Every film carries a piece of me — my thoughts, feelings, and the things I sometimes can’t express in words. Filmmaking lets me show people how I see the world and, in a way, invites them into my mind. Each story I tell reflects my own journey.
