An Inspired Chat with Brent Estabrook of South Bay

Brent Estabrook shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Brent, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is… I wake up at 5 AM and meditate for one hour, walk down to the beach and enjoy the early morning ocean and waves, journal a full page in my Thankful/Manifestation Journal, go to the gym, come home and eat eggs, do some creative computer AND then I setup for painting 🙂 I spend the next 2-3 hours creating and then take a mid day yoga/mediation break. After this little break is when my Creativity is in full expression and I spend the next 5 or 6 hours creating out on my patio until the sun goes down. I then make dinner for myself, my wife and/or friends, relax, go to bed, and then do it all over again 🙂

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Brent Estabrook, and I am a creator of many things! I am most famous for giant, textural oil paintings and bronze sculptures of stuffed animals and teddy bears however, my true creative essence comes from the process of constantly evolving and exploring new subjects, techniques, and inspirations. My brand is about inspiring others to follow their creative passions in life and living a life with more playfulness, wonderment, and gratitude. Something that makes me unique is that I spent four years getting my dental degree, graduating, and then never working a day of dentistry in my life… I made the very intentional decision to follow my true passion in life; art, or to be more precise, the act of creating. What I am working on now is something I am not yet fully ready to share with the World however, two different names that have popped up are either “Inspirationalism” or “Inspirationism” 🙂

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shaped how I see myself is with my wife, Dr. Tara. I could write a book on the positive impact she has on my life. One piece of life advice I could offer to anyone is to find a partner in life that inspires, and challenges, you to positively grow. With that said, you must also become a kind of person that inspires your partner to positively grow… it is a nice positive loop cycle… and in my opinion, essential to living a fulfilling, happy life.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has most held me back in life is the fear of not being good enough… it is still something I battle to this day. Even though I have had a very successful art career, I still have struggles through every painting that it is not good enough. This feeling, for better or worse, has pushed me as an artist to constantly seek improvement which I am very grateful for however, ultimately I know this feeling is not one of positivity and it is something I intentionally work on. Through a lot of mindfulness practices, I have replaced this fear with a love for myself and a love for every piece of art I create. I have now come to realize that Anything is truly possible as long as You believe in it! My art and my wife are two continuing inspirations for this 🙂

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
Oh, I love this question. Through my dental schooling, I was very much indoctrinated in the dogma of western science, which I believe has helped humanity greatly, however, I do believe the World, the Universe, is so much more magical than our current scientific understandings. I believe that our thought energy can create our reality. If a majority of your thoughts are filled with positivity, abundance, and love, then the Universe, God, Positive Energy (whatever you want to call it) will create this in your reality.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story I hope people tell about me when I am gone is that I inspired them to pursue their loves and passions in life.
