We recently had the chance to connect with Andrew Koussevitzky and have shared our conversation below.
Andrew, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day usually starts early. I wake up (or my kids wake me up) and drive my kids to school, which is honestly one of my favorite parts of the day. On the way back, I usually stop at my local coffee shop and then head straight to my desk to start working. Most days are a mix of deep work and meetings, often taking meetings all around the city, so I’m often bouncing between my office and different locations in Los Angeles. As the workday starts to wrap up, I try to get a workout in, then shift into family mode and take the kids to their after school activities like soccer, gymnastics, and music class. We usually have dinner together as a family, and once the kids are asleep, I’ll spend an hour or two working on my EDM music project, Kouss, before calling it a night.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the founder of Koussevitzky Law, a boutique business and corporate law firm based in Los Angeles. We work with founders, operators, and growing companies across a range of industries, with a strong emphasis on highly regulated and complex businesses. Think crypto, canna, and of course, entertainment. My background is a little unconventional in that I’ve spent years advising clients not just as a lawyer, but as someone who understands how businesses actually operate day to day. Clients come to us not just for legal answers, but for clear thinking and guidance they can actually use to move their businesses forward.
Alongside the law firm, I also have an EDM music project under the name Kouss. Music has been a constant thread in my life, from touring in bands earlier in my career to now releasing dance records on established electronic labels and receiving national radio support. It’s a creative outlet that keeps me sharp and grounded. While the law firm has been my primary focus, the music project continues to grow in interesting ways, and balancing the two worlds has become a big part of my story.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
I learned the most about work from my parents. They showed me, in different ways, what consistency, responsibility, and showing up every day looks like. It was all about doing good work, taking pride in it, and honoring your commitments. That mindset stuck with me and still shapes how I run my firm and approach everything I work on today.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly, no. There are always hard moments and times when things feel uncertain, but I’ve never seriously considered giving up on anything. Years ago, a former Capitol Records A&R named Michael Howe told me that I’d “chew through glass for success,” and that really stuck with me haha. I’ve always believed that if something matters enough, you find a way.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They’d say family, without question. Beyond that, they’d probably say I care a lot about living an intentional life and not letting time just slip by. I’m focused on getting the most out of my time here, building things that matter, going on adventures, and being present for the people I love. And hopefully, experiencing a lot of joy and love along the way.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
With my wife and kids at a sushi counter in Toyko.
