Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Flanagan.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Gina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
They say that setbacks are setups for comebacks.
In 2013, I was independently contracted by two established businesses. Within 6 months of each other, both companies shut down, leaving me unemployed and uncertain of what the future held.
I had been in the Wellness Industry for over 15 years and while confident in my experience and ability, I was a complete rookie in regard to the operational aspects of the business. Nonetheless, the desire to start my own company had been present for several years, so I resolved to take the leap despite the odds being against me.
Renovation Wellness was founded on April 28, 2014, providing services that include Personal Training, Group Fitness, Meal Plans, Massage Therapy and Airbrush Tanning.
My life was quickly consumed with network meetings, cold calls, marketing campaigns, events, educational reading and webinars. This was a whole new world for me and I struggled to find balance. Retaining clients was my number one goal. After what seemed like an eternity, the phone began to ring. I am proud and especially blessed to report that I have an amazing clientele.
Hard work and discipline are essential for success. I don’t believe that we just “arrive”.
I eat, sleep and breathe Renovation Wellness every single day. It’s a constant evolution filled with ups and downs, but there is no greater feeling than making your dreams a reality.
I am passionate about giving back and providing service whenever possible. When I’m not working, training or spending time with my husband Greg, I volunteer at Boxer Rescue LA, where we have rescued 3 Boxers of our own. If I could save each and every sheltered dog, I would do so in a heartbeat. Just need to get Greg on board with that… I also have an extreme love for the outdoors. I am an avid cyclist and find great joy in coaching our local middle/high school mountain bike race team in the Santa Clarita Valley. In addition, my husband and I established CrankBenders Race Team and we also promote PedalFest, L.A.’s Summer Mountain Bike Race Series.
I have built my career around my lifestyle. I am incredibly fortunate to be invited on the wellness journey of so many wonderful individuals. I get to see in them what I have seen in myself as an entrepreneur: setbacks, frustration and uncertainty combined with success and victories. The tenacity to achieve goals no matter what is thrown your way is truly remarkable and I encourage it in every facet of life.
I am excited for the continued growth of Renovation Wellness and am grateful for the setbacks that set me up for the success I am currently enjoying.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
To say that I was clueless as to what this new adventure entailed would be an understatement.
Having zero entrepreneurial experience and a shoestring budget, my only option was to just figure things out along the way. I built my own web site, designed marketing materials as well as meal plans and exercise programs.
Plenty of mistakes have been made, but I do my very best to view obstacles as opportunities for improvement. I was told a few years ago to track and celebrate all of my achievements, however big or small. You can bet your bottom dollar that even the slightest triumph is met with healthy festivity.
Please tell us about Renovation Wellness.
Renovation Wellness offers a realistic approach to a holistic lifestyle. The variety of services provided are designed to help clients feel motivated, balanced and be their best self.
Combining my love for food, health and fitness, I began constructing meal plans that are easy to prepare, flavorful and nutritious, along with exercise routines that are fun, challenging and can be done just about anywhere. I want my clients to achieve their goals and enjoy the process as much as possible.
Renovation Wellness has also grown in leaps and bounds over the past few years. Since becoming a business owner, I have celebrated several accomplishments, both professionally as well as personally:
2016 Santa Clarita Valley JCI 40 Under Forty Honoree
Voted Best of Santa Clarita Valley Tanning Salon 2015 and 2016
Voted Elite Magazine Ultimate Massage Therapist 2016 and 2017
2015 Multiple Mountain Bike Series Championship wins, including a National Championship
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I honestly don’t think I would have done anything differently. I have learned invaluable lessons throughout this experience that I could not have possibly developed otherwise.
Sometimes you have to just dive in and go for it. There is no room for expansion in comfort zones.
