Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Mireles and Holly Alvarado.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Holly and I have been best friends for years, growing up together, and being heavily influenced by the backyard shows and underground music scene in our city. I guess you can say we’ve always been some rebel punk kids, living our best lives, and smoking hella weed.
Please tell us about your art.
We started as a music collective and online platform that uses Instagram as our main source to release media. MunchieTime Collective has become much more than that. We have thrown backyard shows, we have a podcast, we’ve tried out YouTube, and we also have created a platform for artists to be open about themselves, and be in a space that doesn’t judge anyone, and anyone can be free and open to be themselves, while also educating our audience on the local LA underground scene and smoke hella weed. I guess you can say MunchieTime is a platform to associate and mix art with marijuana.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
The biggest challenge artists face, is keeping up with peoples interest. Today things are changing so much, you have to keep with the times. There’s so many new artists coming out everyday. No one can really be “themselves,” even when it’s advertised that they are themselves. That’s another problem, it’s very hard to be yourself, and even if your art is representing you, there’s still people in the background telling you what you can and cannot do.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
We have all of our posts, pictures, and updates on Instagram. Instagram is our main platform. You can also look up any of our podcasts on Spotify and Anchor. You can also support our cause on anchor. There are three different monthly donation tiers.
