The Weekly Bite: Deli News Pizza in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Long Beach’s Deli News Pizza.

Every restaurant has its own history, backstory, etc. We’d love to hear yours.
For over 25 years Deli News has served delicious Italian lunch and dinner to the families of East Long Beach and the students of Cal State Long Beach.

After a change in ownership in 2012, when we took over, Deli News Pizza became reinforced with an updated interior and brand new furniture, TVs not to mention savory new menu items.

Customers have first and foremost always responded to the prices. A family of four can easily spend under $25 with plenty to go around. The famous medium pizzas are plenty big and under $7. Over the years, we have become a neighborhood spot and the long-time employees recognize many customers by name.

Tell us about the challenges of running a food service / restaurant business.
It sure wasn’t easy getting to where we are today. The owners of Deli News have owned many restaurants before but none in Long Beach. Long Beach breeds its own kinds of “townies” many of them have been coming here since they were in college or before and now are grandparents themselves.

Making any change to these long established place proved to be difficult as changing things without giving people a proper timetable to adjust would not go well.

Nevertheless after some careful planning and some strategy, introducing change proved to be effective.

What separates Deli News Pizza from the other similar spots?
Our main attraction is our prices. But people come here because we don’t skimp on the quality of products used. We use some of the best quality pastas, dough, meats etc. We have always had a $5 pizza and that’s not going away anytime soon.

Did you know that our small 12″ pizza is what other big chains sell as a medium or even a large at times? We stick to old school values and true sizes.
