Meet Roman Anthony

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roman Anthony.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Well I started acting whilst in college in NYC back in 2010. I’ve featured in films on Hulu, Logo TV, HereTV, and have done tons of LGBT web-series on YouTube and other online sources. Aside from being an entertainer I’ve also created an entertainment focused blog where I’ve interviewed artist from all professions. Geoffrey Owens from the Cosby Show, Roland Buck III from NBC’s Chicago MED, Trans model Arisce Wanzer from Oxygens Strut, designers, from Amsterdam, models from South Africa, and even a porn star. My story is not only to create stories, but to also share others.

Please tell us about your art.
Acting is my primary art. I truly love being able to transform into another being. I’ve had so many positive reviews over the years from young people who have resonated with one of my characters. It’s a truly humbling & fulfilling experience. I hope people take away from Roman Anthony to have ambition, and to not give up on dreams. From one of my characters, I hope they see themselves finally on screen, and realize that it’s okay to be you. Well unless I’m playing a murderer. Let’s not be that!

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on? Wow great question. When I was younger I watched an interview where the actor said it was not their place to be involved in politics, or conversations that can basically deter people from their work. However, I can’t help it. I have to speak my mind whenever something passionate hits me. I mean how can’t we sit idle when there are Kenyans being sold into slavery, missing young girls not Africa, homeless Syrians on the streets fin Paris, and closer to home children being murdered in classrooms because of inefficient gun control laws? The universe is definitely speaking to us. We ought to listen. I’ve played domestically abused characters to shed light on that being an unspoken actuality in LGBT relationships, I’ve played trans characters before it’s was trendy. My art should not only reflect the times, but also open doors for conversation.
