Meet Mariah Dodson of United Herbalism in Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariah Dodson.

Mariah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey started as a little girl, watching my mother suffer from mental illness and be forced into options that offered her no quality of life. I remember having so many questions about my mother her conditions and why she was never able to truly heal. Never receiving answers that satisfied me, my curiosity grew. I knew at a young age, I wanted to serve. I have been Volunteering at child care centers, homeless centers since the age of 12. My mission was to help people with whatever resources I had available. From holding and playing with babies who were in the foster care system, showing them love and compassion to feeding the homeless, I have been brought up on the foundational principle for the love of humanity. At 18 years old, I enlisted into the United States Army. While in the Military, I was able to understand more of what courage and selfless service really meant. I was constantly seeing many great people, Hero’s, who have sacrificed so much, not being offered the best solutions for personal challenges they were facing with physical and mental health. My curiosity for alternative healing options grew, but I noticed a gap in the current solution and true quality of life.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
By no means has it been a smooth sailing. I have learned a new appreciation of dedication and resilience. Being faced with discrimination that oftentimes comes with being in my early twenties, a woman, as well as a BIPOC (black indigenous person of color), a triple minority in business offered me many, many roadblocks and challenges.
A normal business Meeting of mine would be filled with many inappropriate comments and unnecessary hoops to jump through, just to prove my competency in the fields in which I was developing.

But this common reality offered me the opportunity to be more courageous, more intuitive, and innovate!

I have been in meetings as an observer, so I am absolutely able to better understand the distinct obstacles that are put in front of me and my businesses.
