Meet Kathy Copsey of Musician’s Depot in Westlake Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Copsey.

Kathy started working at Musician’s Depot back in 2003 for the original owner of the store who started the business from scratch back in 1993. Kathy started working part-time, but moved to full time to managing the business within a few months. Kathy has a musical background including starting flute 30 years ago at 7 years old to learning multiple other instruments over the years, as well as repairing instruments for over 24 years. Kathy’s top loves include art, Kung Fu and music, she recently started her own business KS Designs and she is a very devoted student of Kung Fu at The Village in Westlake Village.

Mid 2005, the original owner sold the business to the current owner. The business has gone thru changes and a few remodels on the inside over the years, and over the last 2 years the mall has been refaced giving the mall a fresh, new look, which has caused numerous challenges for our client base trying to attend lessons or even find the store causing our student and customer numbers to shrink during that time, but we are working to rebuild the business. With the original store in the same location since being founded in 1993, we also opened a 2nd location for a couple years in Woodland Hills, but then shrunk back down to just the original store in Westlake Village. We have had more than 400 students attending private lessons per week, we only staff the highest quality teachers whom the students love, we sell musical instruments, accessories, and books, and we rent out hundreds of instruments every year to the band and string students in the schools in all of the nearby cities.

Students of all ages love the atmosphere at the store and past students love to come back to see their photos on our walls in the store as well as to visit Kathy and the dedicated longtime teachers many years later. The store also hosts events such as our Rock Night where students get to perform songs they like at a venue and has recently added Friday’s Freestyle Jams the 3rd Friday of each month for students and musicians who want to play without the pressure of performing. In addition, to help motivate students to practice, students earn tickets from their teachers for practicing and then Musician’s Depot holds raffles to award a winner each month.  As a prize, Kathy draws a small picture of something such as a cute puppy or other picture a student might like. The store has faced many challenges over the year, but still boasts of a few hundred students attending lessons each week, and next year will have been in business for 25 years.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Musician’s Depot – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We pride ourselves in keeping prices affordable for students with the highest quality teachers and instruments. Our teachers are very dedicated to helping students learn the fundamentals needed to play an instrument, but make the lessons fun and exciting, gearing the lessons towards what each student wants to learn. We love hosting events like our Rock Night in a fun and exciting way to encourage our students to get out there and play, and we have had numerous students over the years go on to continue with their music including having someone who took lessons at the store as a teenager, went thru school and became a teacher here at the store not to mention the huge number of students who have continued to play and have music careers.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our 25th year will be coming up fairly quickly so we will probably do something to celebrate, but we are always looking forwards to continually providing the best service possible, with a focus on helping our students and customers achieve their goals in music and always love hearing about their successes in life that even go beyond music. Make sure to check out Musician’s Depot’s website or call for more details and schedule your FREE Trial Lesson today!
