Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Gilda Gilak.
Dr. Gilak, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story began at an early age, both parents in healthcare industry my decision was to be a health caregiver. I went to college in Tehran study Cellular Biology with Microbiology, After undergraduate studies my dad had encouraged me to move to US and pursue my education and while deciding on how to proceed, I had to stumble upon world of chiropractic; learning more about it I realized this is what I like and continue my education in this field, but towards the end of my internship I realized the typical three times a week treatment regimen for everyone is not what I had signed up for, so one of my classmates told me to look in to Active Release Technique and I realized that specializing in biomechanical assessments of the joint and then treating the right muscle combined with chiropractic manipulation, follow up with proper strength and conditioning is a better way to deal with many joint injuries/insufficiencies. In the meantime, I wanted to get further in my education, so I began studying in the field of Nutrition. By 2016, I finished my Masters in Human Nutrition and added that to my treatment protocols for patients. I live a very active life and so I understand how injuries affect mental and physical states and coping with my tool I could help as many people as they come across my ways.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth is not how I put it, it has been a journey and I have had my good challenging moments like anything else in l life but overall, I think it has been very positive and the effect of change that you make in people’s life by educating them on how to live clean is a great reward. But how to raise up to challenge defines who we are, so I can say I have been doing my best to overcome the challenges.
Please tell us more Dr. Gilak.
So, what I am known for is that I can get a result and being specialized in ART has able me to treat conditions that normally wouldn’t be treated by chiropractic care only. I am proud that I was able to help many people and the reward is priceless. What sets me apart from others, you have to ask my patients. I think is my technique combined with the fact that my brain works like an engineer and I am honest with patients when I can’t help I tell them and I think that is something that they appreciate.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
Well, healthcare industry needs a big change, but treating musculoskeletal system and spine care needs to change in the next 5-10 years, I can see a big shift of preventative medicine play a major role in decision making for consumers. I hope that this industry can catch up with the shift.
