Today we’d like to introduce you to BaddJazz.
Hi BaddJazz, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We (Patrick & Kaan) are old friends and we developed our chops through the Los Angeles blues scene. We started focusing on songwriting and producing original material a couple of years ago. The idea was to work hard and have a good time doing it without sacrificing our personal day-to-day. We’d like to think we’re killing it but there’s always room for improvement.
We are absolutely in love with classic rock and funk. The psychedelic musings of Jimi Hendrix Experience and Pink Floyd, coupled with the aggressive delivery of Freddie King and the undeniable funkiness of James Brown is what we aspire to be on stage. But as we started developing our own material, we immersed ourselves with contemporary R&B and lo-fi jazz, resulting in what we call baddJazz.
Our debut EP is coming out in a couple of months and we’ve been performing at live music venues all around LA. The road traveled so far seems long but we’re only just starting.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Writing and recording music has been a blast; while we occasionally have disagreements, we always go the extra mile to work out something that we both love. To satisfy our passion for performing live, we try to play shows as much as possible and finding the right venues to call home has been challenging. The LA music scene has its own pitfalls and pay to play is a big one. Avoiding it isn’t always easy but we’ve managed to find more artist-friendly venues, which has been a rewarding experience. We look forward to playing more live shows this year!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We specialize in playing intense live performances and drinking whiskey while doing it. Our on-stage chemistry and improvisational approach to our shows are what sets us apart. We work hard individually and as a unit to deliver the best night out for folks coming out to our shows. It took us a while to tighten up our set and stay present while performing but we’re very proud of what comes out, which is different every show.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
This one’s easy – follow us on Instagram! More followers and acknowledgment from our peers give us legitimacy when we apply to venues, booking agents, and labels so that’s the most important thing people can do for us right now. It’s also the best way to stay up to date with our live shows and recording release dates!
