Today we’d like to introduce you to Rippu Basrai Chadha.

Hi Rippu, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
“CREATIVITY runs in my Genes. And the Aries in me really takes it seriously. To an extent that I envisioned entrepreneuring in the field of Art, Décor, and Styling. COLORS move my Soul. And having a Rainbow around me is my Life’s mantra. I wished to leverage the magic, power and emotion of colors’ everyday, forever, and thereupon embarked on my Event journey.”

I am a Software Engineer, having a decade long experience in the IT industry, working with the leading tech giants, in India and in the US. But I always knew this was not my calling and that my interests were in the creative field.

Right from childhood, I was intrigued by well-done homes, fascinating handicrafts, and tastefully designed spaces. That came so naturally being born to two highly creative and artistic parents. And hailing from the Armed forces background, my growing up years were all about traveling to new cities, living the Colorful cultural life of India, collecting artifacts and dwelling in beautiful bungalows with lush green lawns full of florals. My days started with literally gazing at colors and seeing my talented mom work on the aesthetics and art, where our favorite part was decorating our new abode each time we moved crafting and floral arrangements. Being an Army kid also instilled in me a strong sense of discipline, ingenuity and conduct, which clearly reflects in my work and lifestyle.

Moving to California post my marriage was like an empty Canvas of possibilities and the perfect chance to experiment with my choices, lifestyle, and even my profession. I continued in the software field for a few years and then went on a sabbatical right after I had my first kid and that gave me enough time to ponder and contemplate.

I have been my own decorator, my family’s stylist, our home adorner and my Family and Friend Tribe’s Party Planner.

I always enjoyed styling and beautifying everything around me and planning/designing parties for my kids from scratch was one of the fondest. It always felt great when each time I got to know how wowed all were with my sense of the craft and style. And having spent quality time enriching the foundational years of my two beloved kids, it was the perfect time to reclaim my full-time career goals and fulfill my passion. The key piece was the proactive push and encouragement from my doting friends and loving family, and they telling me that my skills can make a difference, that led me to venture and make Event Décor and Styling my much passioned Profession.

I am blessed to have received so much love since the day I started my business and the adulation my work has garnered. Most of our projects and leads have been through word of mouth and that is what has been most humbling and our biggest driving force. We have worked hard to make us as an integral part of our Client’s Celebrated moments and our Clients an essential part of us. It gives me immense joy to see them appreciate the little details, know that they value us and have them come back to us stronger as a FAMILY.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It would go without saying that certainly, it has not been such a smooth road to voyage. But I am not the first one to blaze the trail right! An entrepreneur’s, rather a mompreneur’s, journey is never easy, especially when you step onto one single-handedly, at certainly not the so called prime time in age, leaving a six-figure salary and the perfect job title behind. And that was exactly my storyline.

On top of that, Event business can be really intimidating, stressful and is very hands on. The biggest challenge is that you have to persistently deliver and there is no fallback. Also, Carving a niche for yourself and making your business thrive in this highly competitive market, especially here in this part of the globe, gets frustrating sometimes and it’s easy to fall into the quicksand of comparison to the pool already out there.

The ideology that kept me going is one thing I learnt from my dad and that is, “Nothing in the world comes served on a silver platter, you got to work hard for it”. Believe in Yourself, take Pride in your Skills, Focus on your Strengths and Keep Going. I have seen my dad, a self-made man, do this all his life and I literally live by it.

Then, I have my husband, my pillar of strength, who I can always count on and my two kids who never fail to give me a share of fandom. They are my biggest force, supporters and motivators and we are now a Family doing what we Love!

I am fortunate and thank my stars for the rock solid support and unconditional love of my entire family who stand by me and my decisions no matter what.

At the end, all these struggles are so worth it, as for me, Doing Events is not just a profession, it’s my way of leading life – with Beauty, Manner and Ideal. I consider each day in Life worth celebrating and my work gives wings to my dreams. It brings immense joy and exuberance to me to beautify the life of others.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Designing parties and events gives me a platform to shape my Styling dreams and reveries into memories for life for my clients. It’s like adding pages to their memory album. For me, the motto is “Every Detail Matters”. And I work to perfection to adorn even the minute of all elements with Style, Technique, Love and Pulchritude. My engineering degree gives me a far edge to use technology in, deal with mechanics of and understand the technicalities behind, the Art business.”

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Last one year has been really taxing. It was like a testing phase not just for the event industry but for the entire world. And surely, the event industry was one of the first to feel the traumatic impacts of COVID-19. Events and social gatherings were stalled.

It was devastating for me to see the business come to a standstill at a point where we had barely started to make a mark. All our events in the pipeline were put on hold, some canceled and it was difficult for us and our clients too. All I could do was to keep my cool and hang in there. I learnt that as human beings, it’s our innate nature to learn from disruptions, evolve and come out victorious. Social connection is in our DNA. Magic happens when people gather and celebrations make that connect.

As a part of the event industry, I felt it was our duty to add to the joy and happiness of others. So, embracing the chaos and adapting to these changes, RED ventured into new dimensions and aspects of celebrations that helped get us through. We very slowly and gradually made our way to planning and styling small-scale intimate parties and outdoor/backyard events for our clients.

We introduced a new segment; PICNICS, to our services, which are going strong, has received immense love and significant appreciation. Our picnics are specially designed boutique styled pop – ups, which are chic, elegant, classy and drop dead gorgeous!!! We provide these luxurious setups for all Occasions in the heart of beautiful OC/LA locations. With fine touches and details, we turn a backyard, a nearby park, a garden or a beach venue into a great heartwarming experience.
